Welcome to fluther
You can have your sister gargle with warm salt water.

Yep—don’t underestimate this trick (above)! I also find that eating popsicles doesn’t get rid of it, but it eases the pain for a bit because the cold going down numbs it.

I am one more vote for the warm water and salt gargle. There you have it. Three votes. We, and you, win.

I know that essential oils are, according to many people, not to be ingested. BUT, you can safely use Tea Tree oil or Naouli oil to help with a sore throat. Put only 2 or 3 drops into a TEA spoon of vodka (as the alcohol helps to disperse the oil), then add some milk and drink. The oils are antiseptic and antiviral so will get rid of pretty much all bugs. Don’t take this as medical advice, it is more an old wives tale. PS. it tastes disgusting but worked for me.

Gargle with 50/50 vinegar and warm water 3 x’s and do this twice a day and your sore throat will be gone in 12 – 24 hours. Sip warm lemon tea with honey or sip some warm chicken soup to soothe the throat.

Hard liquor, no seriously, a shot of everclear will knock it out for hours at a time. I’m talking a table spoon or two, not getting intoxicated.

Taking aspirin can help, too. But another vote for the salt water gargle. If it persists, it could be strep.

Warm salt water gargle, and brush three times a day and use Listerine too, gargling it. Helps. Let us know. Welcome to flutherville.

I suggest a tablespoon or two of bourbon and an equal amount of honey mixed together.
(and that salt water gargling thing? I tried that—once. I had laryngitis for three days after.)

Welcome to Fluther.

I always like lemon juice, straight. But I like lemon juice anyway. She may prefer it in the form of lemonade, but I’d still recommend that it be made ‘strong’.

Vinegar is pretty good, too.

Will she swallow a spoon of honey?

Seconding the honey. Also, she can gargle with mouthwash for about 30 seconds (Biotene works best, but any brand will do in a pinch).

I take a swallow of Silver Biotics (SilverSol) every hour for 3 hrs and it goes away for good. A good swish also stops any and all toothaches. I like @Cruiser‘s suggestions, too.
