How does one purchase a phone number?

Asked by bpeoples (2551points) March 1st, 2011

I have a preferred VOIP provider, but they don’t have any good numbers right now. Is there a broker for phone numbers, or some sort of central clearing house?

Specifically, I’m looking for a number with at least two 0’s on the end of it, in my local area code that I can then transfer to my VOIP provider.

You have to use one of your provider’s numbers unless you are able to port your current number.

Look into the phone service in your google account. There is an option to have google search for a specific alternate phone number that you can link to your existing phone—kind of a long-shot but it would ring to your number.
