Does anyone else not really see Charlie Sheen as someone who desperately needs help?

Asked by SuppRatings (460points) March 1st, 2011

Sure, he does some crazy and extravagant things here and there; but he really doesn’t give off the vibe of someone who is crazy and out of control, but rather gives off the vibe of someone that does what the hell he wants to do without giving a damn…

His manner seems almost manic.

tinyfaery's avatar

I’ve seen many a drug abuser, and he is definitely one of them. The only person who can help him is himself. I don’t feel sorry for him, though. He is crying all the way to the bank.

Winters's avatar

So? if thats the way he wants to live his life, why not let him? It’s not our place to tell him he shouldn’t live in the manner he does.

(it’s his mother’s lol)

SuppRatings's avatar

I think is more has borderline personality disorder as opposed to mania; but I’m not sure he is an addict (though only him and his ‘inner circle of friends’ know).

It is possible to regularly use substances without it being an addiction.

Exactly @winters, it’s his life and he hasn’t really hurt anybody except maybe himself; so who cares?

Austinlad's avatar

I think it’s a terribly sad statement about our culture that so much of his “star power” derives from starring in such a sleazy, albeit popular, TV show.

ucme's avatar

He looks as happy as a pig in shite. Good luck to the fella say I. Maybe he should clean up a bit though, after all…..Mr.Sheen shines umpteen things clean :¬)

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@SuppRatings No, he’s hurt his ex-wife (physically on this one), the porn star locked in the bathroom, Chuck Lorre, the producers of 2 & ½ Men, and all the people that are now basically out of work.

JilltheTooth's avatar

I have a little trouble with the idea that he’s getting the same amount of news coverage as Libya and Egypt.

bunnygrl's avatar

I do think he’s acting a bit like a spoilt child, and maybe thats the problem? they get famous (and he’s had a lifetime of fame) then surround themselves with people telling them how wonderful they are, and end up thinking that silly things like laws and rules of behaviour only apply to us little people and not to them? I hope I’m wrong, I really do, but the way he’s acting it’s looking more and more like his life might end badly :-(

erichw1504's avatar

Just look at my avatar and decide for yourself.

erichw1504's avatar

What would you do if you got paid millions of dollars per episode to play yourself?

Summum's avatar

The only difference from him and many of us living our lives is he is in the lime light and everything he does is exposed.

I wonder how many of us would look even worse than he does? How you would like every single thing you do showed to the nation?

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Summum I know of exactly no people in real life that regularly have coke parties with porn stars. Literally, zero people.

JilltheTooth's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs : Me either. Damn, we’re dull.

MacBean's avatar

I think anyone who doesn’t think he needs help either hasn’t seen/read these interviews and quotes or is in need of some help themselves.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@MacBean My favorite is the ‘loving you violently’ one – how exactly that is supposed to sound like anything other than admitting to DV is beyond me. But I am enjoying the kitty memes that have come along with these quotes.

perspicacious's avatar

Maybe he’s just nuts and happy there.

wilma's avatar

He seems to be in self-destruct mode.

Summum's avatar

I agree I think he has many problems but don’t we all? He has those kind of parties again because of who he is and his famous status also his money. If you don’t live in an area where that is common then you wouldn’t see people that have coke parties and such. That still does not negate that if he does just about anything it will be on the news.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Summum At least one in three women will be raped. The commonness of it doesn’t make it any less of a problem, or the victims any more hurt. Just because it’s common for men to beat the lady(ies) they’re involved with doesn’t make it any better – I really doubt any of the women he’s beaten are going “Wow, this is quite the bruise on my cheek, but hey, this is life, right?”. Or if they are, that’s probably some battered-wife syndrome, and they should get help.

Summum's avatar

Does Charlie beat ladies? I hadn’t heard that and no those kinds of things are not acceptable behavior in any condition. I’m not saying he is right/wrong, good/evil, true/false all I am saying is his life is put out for everyone to see. Frankly I don’t watch anything about him but I do know because of his status everything he does is out for everyone to examine if they choose.

SpatzieLover's avatar

All I can say is that I feel for his parents, his siblings, all of his wives, and certainly for his children. It’s a free country, however, he’s messing with many peoples psyches and their livelihoods.

Summum's avatar

Was he arrested for that @SpatzieLover if not he should have been. I don’t like men that hit women.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Summum Yes, he was arrested in Aspen for it.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@Summum He was. It seems to me that he spirals up and down. It appears manic. I doubt that using substances has helped this mania.

It also appears as though his mom & dad are hands off. Knowing they are Catholics, my feeling is they feel as though they’ve done what they can.

jca's avatar

His mom and dad are probably hands off because he’s an adult, he has lots of money of his own, and they know better than to think they can control his behavior. He is beyond being helped by mommy and daddy.

Also, nobody can diagnose any kind of mental illness that he may or may not have. If someone is high or on a low from coming down from substance abuse, their appearance and demeanor will not be something that anybody can assess, even a professional. That’s why when someone enters treatment, they have to be sober before they can really be evaluated properly.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@SpatzieLover It can be really hard to tell the difference between mania and just being high on cocaine.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs Except his most recent phase of interviews have all been done after drug tests came back clear (on site).

@jca His family has performed interventions in the past and the recent past. They’ve had interviews regarding their beliefs on how Charlie is conducting himself in public knowing their grandchildren can access the info.

MacBean's avatar

Here’s a link to a list of more links for anyone who feels out of the loop and cares to read up about Charlie’s inability to STFU and act like he shouldn’t be declared legally insane.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@MacBean Holy heckfire…The quotes are unbelievable! Especially the Piers Morgan interview.

jca's avatar

On the radio today, they were questioning the drug tests. Does anybody know if he was watched while he urinated, etc. – all things that can influence a drug test.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@jca They have the blood tests on film. I’m thinking they may have had a person or people in with him for urine tests. I didn’t hear/see anything on that portion of the tests.

mrrich724's avatar

I think he just wants to be left the hell alone. Unfortunately for him, he chose fame, and now he doesn’t want to have to deal with it (even though he likes the benefits, like millions of dollars an episode of a show)

I don’t think he’s crazy. He definitely has a drug problem. But I think the main issue is he’s lashing out on the media b/c he wants to do what he wants to do, b/c he’s a free man in America, and he can’t do it b/c everyone keeps scrutinizing him and airing his dirty laundry.

Seelix's avatar

I’m so sick of hearing about this guy. Who cares?

syzygy2600's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs Statistics I can find state that one in six women will be sexually assaulted at some point in their life. Do you have a source for that statistic that one in every three women is raped, or is it just some anti male bullshit?

Charlie should have stayed with Denise Richards. They make a good couple, in that they’re both horrible human beings.

mrrich724's avatar

@Seelix I don’t care for one! I do NOT understand how someone can waste 30 minutes of their life watching the E! channel, much less subscribe to gossip magazines to see what other human beings (who they will most likely NEVER meet, muchless form a bond with) are doing with their personal time.

However once in a while the news saturates us so much (I had to listen to the Sheen news on my local Country Station this morning for C Sake!) That you can’t help but think about it, or at least keep track of what’s going on.

cak's avatar

I see someone spiraling downward and not able to see the end approaching, and quickly. I find it sad. I feel for his family.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@syzygy2600 Wow, I’m really feeling the love and trust. No, you’re right, I realized that while I was in school. I was mixing it up with the 1 in 3 breast cancer statistic. But I’m glad you assumed the worst.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@cak That’s how I feel. My dad was a rather public alcoholic. It is difficult to be the child of such an individual.

cak's avatar

@SpatzieLover My mother’s parents were alcoholics and well-known throughout their community. It was very hard on her growing up.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@cak my dad’s entire family drinks. Everyone knows it. It’s extremely painful to chose not to live the life they lead, but still get all of the comments.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@SpatzieLover True, but once you’ve been on cocaine for awhile, it tends to mess up your brain circuitry for quite some time after the actual drug has gotten out of your system. And the tests may not have been monitoring for booze, Rx drugs, etc.

cak's avatar

@SpatzieLover Here’s something good that came out of it, you. You are a strong, loving, kind, intelligent person. Despite having to deal with that hardship, you are still you. The comments can be harsh, I had them thrown my direction from my Grandmother. I have these two legs with feet and I walked away. I know it doesn’t take the sting away, but you hold your head up and know that you are a good person. (and know I’m always in your corner! If that helps)

SpatzieLover's avatar

@cak {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} I now try to shelter my little guy from all of it as much as I can. It has come as a harsh reality to some of my family members, as I have told them straight out I strongly desire my son to see/hear/know none of it for now.

woodcutter's avatar

I’ve a bellyfull of his bluster now, piss on him he’s a douche

Kraigmo's avatar

The worst thing about him is his alleged treatment of his girlfriends when he’s angry.

Outside of that, I see a man who is totally self-unaware, but at the same time overly-aware of most other things in the world.

I am judging him based on his Alex Jones interviews and his recent published behavior. I have no idea how good an actor he is, or how good his heart is.

He’s both an intellect and a buffoon.

SamIAm's avatar

I feel badly for Denise and his girls.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@erichw1504 Zomg, I’ve loved that site forever! By which I mean last night…

SpatzieLover's avatar

@SamIAm I also feel badly for the grandma that usually cares for the 2yr old twin boys. I cannot fathom seeing them on tv with his Ménage à trois “godesses” holding them

Summum's avatar

After seeing him last night on his interview I think he is really mixed up and still heavily on drugs. Some of the comments he made were not from this planet. LOL I do feel for him and hope that he can get past this and get on in life.

trailsillustrated's avatar

oh hahahaha. ( I met him in the 80’s he was a hell crazy partier then- so was his dad )

syzygy2600's avatar

How anyone can feel bad for Denise Richards blows my mind.

syzygy2600's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs Because she’s a no-talent elitist whose now set for life because of Charlie’s money? You really think she deserves $60,000 a month?

SpatzieLover's avatar

@syzygy2600 Money does not create happiness. She’s a mommy that has to deflect all of this current crap from her daughters.

syzygy2600's avatar

@SpatzieLover Yeah my heart really bleeds for someone who gets sixty grand a month for sitting on her ass. I wonder how much of that money actually gets spent on the children.

Who really cares if shes happy. Lots of people aren’t happy, the difference is most unhappy people don’t have the option of wiping their ass with a hundred dollar bill.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@syzygy2600 So I take it that if you had loads of money, we’d never ever have to hear you complain or whine or say anything remotely negative, no matter what – mugging, rape, death of a child, genocide – nothing.

syzygy2600's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs Denise Richards hasn’t been mugged, raped, or genocided now has she?

Honestly, only in America would someone act as though a woman who makes sixty grand a month for doing absolutely fuck all is worthy of feeling sorry for.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@syzygy2600 I don’t know what your deal is with Denise Richards, really. But I’m a mom. By looking at her physical body and her body of work I’d say “sitting” and collecting 60K per month is not really what she’s about.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@syzygy2600 Charlie Sheen did beat her a lot, threatened to kill her, and between that and his kiddie porn she was granted a restraining order. But I’m sure she can just buy a new kid with that 60K a month.

syzygy2600's avatar

@SpatzieLover Every interview I’ve seen with her she comes across as a smug, egotistical elitist. Which is probably why she hooked up with Sheen – they are cut from the same mold.

@MyNewtBoobs What kiddie porn are you talking about? As for the violence, its her word against his, and I personally wouldn’t trust what either of them says. Restraining orders in the U.S. are an absolute joke – they do nothing to protect women from legitimatly dangerous men, so judges hand them out like candy. There have been proven cases where a woman has obtained a restraining order against a man, and it’s later been proven that they never even fucking met.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

And I’m out…

syzygy2600's avatar

Ok go cry for more millionaires.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@syzygy2600 Have I somehow offended you by not hating her?

syzygy2600's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs Nope not offended at all. I just think you’re probably the type of person who always assumes the best about women and the worst about men, and I’m not really interested in associating with people like that. I don’t even like Charlie Sheen – I think he’s a scumbag. I sure as hell don’t feel sorry for him. And everything I’ve seen indicates that he and Denise are cut from the same mold.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@syzygy2600 I can tell you I’m the kind of person that gives every human the benefit of the doubt: Man, woman, transgender, asexual-etc.

I won’t make personal assumptions about anyone that I don’t actually know, especially when the media is involved.

SamIAm's avatar

I didn’t know he had twin boys until after I posted here.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@SamIAm luckily, a judge granted the mom a restraining order for the boys & they were removed from Charlie’s bizarre Ménage à trois/addict household

trailsillustrated's avatar

and the best answer goes to @erichw1504 hahahahaha

flo's avatar

Did he just not threaten his wife, that he’ll cut her head off. How is he not charged with something if it is true? Does she have to press charges? And did he put a knife close to her neck to threaten her in the past?
How old do young girls he is with look like? They look underage. Whatever it is he needs, it is not whatever the public is giving him.
