Why/How are my eyes changing colours?

Asked by coffeenut (6171points) March 10th, 2011

Ok….So when I was young my eyes were really light sky blue, Then Dark blue circles surrounded the Iris, Then they got a darker blue, A few months later the Iris…..fragmented? (From smooth blue to little sections…) And when they did that a brown spot appeared in the Iris of each eye…..

Since then the brown has spread from one little spot to most of the inner Iris around the pupil…..And is still slowly spreading.

I have really good eyesight checked regularly I’ve spoken with the doctor about this and he didn’t know…but offered to send me to a specialist I declined As this doesn’t really affect me….except for my curiosity…. lol…A lot of people think I have green eyes…

Any ideas?

You are being taken over by the dark side?

“Changes (lightening or darkening) of eye colors during puberty, early childhood, pregnancy, and sometimes after serious trauma (like heterochromia) do represent cause for plausible argument to state that some eyes can or do change, based on chemical reactions and hormonal changes within the body.

Studies on Caucasian twins, both fraternal and identical, have shown that eye color over time can be subject to change, and major demelanization of the iris may also be genetically determined. Most eye-color changes have been observed or reported in the Caucasian population with hazel eyes.[20]”

@marinelife I understand the changes of blue just added that as back story I don’t really understand why the colour fragmented or how they can change from blue to brown My eyes are not green….they just look green under certain light…

My eyes did that too—They used to be really really blue, and pretty consistent in color. I look back at pictures and I’m shocked. Now they have three colors, yellow on the inside, blue in the middle, and a very dark blue ring on the edge. Depending on the size of the pupil, and so how stretched/relaxed the iris is, mine seem to change colors too.

The color of the eyes is created by the amount of melatonin in the iris, if I’m not mistaken. So what I think is happening is the quantity and location of melatonin is changing, for whatever reason?

Mine change from blue to green when I get angry. The happier I am the bluer my eyes get.
