What is this strange hard lump in my stomach?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) March 11th, 2011 from iPhone

I’m 13 weeks pregnant. Today I was laying down flat and noticed a small, hard lump in my lower stomach (near my groin). It almost looks like a baseball is under my skin. Is this the baby? Should I be scared? Is this normal?

Sounds like a hernia. Go see a doctor.

God’s way of saying “go to the doctor”

@ItalianPrincess1217 Likely your OBGyn has an emergency number…CALL that number now.

You should at least call your OB’s office and express your concern; they should be able to tell you if you should make an appointment. However, I will say that I am very thin so each time I was pregnant I could see and feel a lump in my stomach/groin area. Except for the nausea, I had three very easy pregnancies.

A hernia? Is that something to be concerned about?

@ItalianPrincess1217 Call your doc right now. Tell her/him about the lump.

When I was pregnant, this happened to me, and I was told by the doctor that it was the baby when it is turned around with its back facing out from your stomach. It would happen a lot when I lay on the floor, and sometimes in the morning after sleeping.

this is no time for internet doctoring. use the telephone now.

it is too early for it to be a lump in your belly like that. it’s not your baby.

jesus, just go to the doctor. don’t ask us medical questions. we’re not doctors, and even if we were you need to go see one.

If I thought it was that urgent I would have gone to the hospital. It wasn’t painful and my pregnant girl friend has experienced the same thing. I’ll call the doctor Monday during normal hours just to be safe. I don’t see a need to call the emergency number for something like this. The lump is now gone. It was only there for about an hour.

Well, I am a doctor and I already told her to see a doctor.

@Rarebear I hear you! Gosh, at 13 weeks, I was paranoid. Luckily my doc is the type that prefers you call for any little thing you have a question about…my round ligament pains at that point were beyond anything I’d ever experienced in my life.
