When you hire people at your place does something get damaged or broken or stolen?

Asked by Aster (20023points) March 16th, 2011

I guess I’m just lucky. A man mowed the yard and broke the spinning top off my sprinkler, movers knocked a concrete rabbit off the step and his ear broke off, a housekeeper broke a finger off a lady’s hand on a lamp and we’re missing several things like a bronze indian on a horse. Is this what happens to you?

Maybe you’re luckier than you know. I can’t afford to hire people to do work at my home, so I don’t have your “bad luck” I suppose.

@WasCy Same story different boat

I once cleaned for someone…I broke his little blown glass piano. I replaced it a month later with another one and bought him some musical instruments for his “music themed tree”. He rarely even paid me on time for the work I did prior to the breakage. He was rather ungrateful. I hear he is broke now. Karma is a bitch!

It’s a good idea to help out some, if you can before they get there. Some things that come to mind is ;spread some old sheets on the carpet where they are gong to be. Move some of the tippy stuff out of the way if you can. Some people have too much knick -knacky stuff all over the place. Hey it’s your home you decorate any way you want but if you are the pack rat type it’s only a matter of time before something gets bumped. Good contractors will have a plan for people’s homes and stuff but they won’t be offended if you clear the way a little.
And pets, don’t make workers dodge your pets. Put them outside while they are working or shut them away in a room. People don’t have time to babysit pets. Don’t listen to that Angies List crap.

No. Not usually… I can only really remember a very clumsy, careless plumber breaking things.
