Going to the Everglades for spring break, any good places to go?

Asked by KateTheGreat (13640points) March 18th, 2011

I’ll be in the Everglades (Miami area) all of my spring break. Are there any good places to go and things to do besides air boating?

Nature walks with a park naturalist, Indian community with alligator wrestling demo, near Homestead there is a funky attraction called something like Monkey Jungle with lots and lots of monkeys all around you. You might want to drive to Key Largo if you have a car. You might also want to visit Biscayne National Park on the east coast.

I second the park naturalist: to the uninitiated, the Everglades may seem like a boring sea of grass, but in truth, the ecology is unique and fascinating. Having a knowledgeable guide can make the difference!

Canoeing with the alligators. Seriously. I’ve done it.

Is your life insurance up to date? If so, playing with the alligators might be your thing.

There is nothing more fun than an alligator at the side of your boat.
Given the proximity to South Beach and the Russian flair try:
Kaspia Miami
or
Russian & Turkish Baths at the Castle Beach Club

I own an air boat so I’ll definitely be roaming the glades. @blueiiznh Thank you so much for the restaurant recommendations. I need my Russian food :)
