How do I restore my recycle bin when it is grayed out in windows 7?

Asked by gilgamesh (227points) March 21st, 2011

This is a huge problem considering that I deleted a very important file. I need to restore it and I want to get my recycle bin back. I think I may have hided somehow but even when I go to the personalization and desktop area to restore the icons, the recycle bin check box is grayed out. I literally can’t click it.

Right-click and poke around in the context menu.

If you’ve removed your recycle bin icon, or you previously added the some of the “special” icons like Computer, User or Control Panel to the desktop and they are now missing, you might want to know how to add them back.

Go to Control Panel \ Personalize (or right-click on the desktop and select Personalize), and then choose the link for “Change Desktop Icons” on the left-hand side.

And check the box that says Recycling Bin next to it! :)
