Which is correct for a college english paper: USDA or U.S.D.A.?

Asked by stemnyjones (3976points) March 23rd, 2011

I’m writing a paper for my English 102 class about the lack of sanitation and food safety practices within slaughter houses. Needless to say, I will be referencing the USDA a lot.

Would the proper way to spell it be USDA or U.S.D.A.?

The acronym without punctuation after the full name of the entity has been used once with the acronym beside it in parentheses.
