Did Obama pass the food safety bill that passed the Senate in Dec of 2010?

Asked by stemnyjones (3976points) March 23rd, 2011

I’m writing a paper and didn’t realize that my sources were out of date. Can someone please tell me if Obama passed the bill?

No, as president he would not pass the bill. Once it is passed by both house of congress, he can sign it into law, allow it to become law without his signature, veto it, or if it is the end of the congressional term he can use a pocket veto.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion on the correct verb.

Did he sign it, veto it, or is it still “sitting on his desk”?

Yes, on Jan. 4, 2011, Obama signed the Food Safety Modernization Act into law.

Obama may have signed it but it doesn’t matter. The House controls the purse string and they are working to de-fund virtually all of this country’s gains including Wall street regulation, bank regulations, food safety, and health care. We are now regressing pass the ‘50’s and into the early 30’s. I understand that they are even fighting equal rights, and working to making this an official “Christian” country. I’m glad I’m old and won’t have to see the final death throes of this formerly great country.

Oh my. Well, there goes all hope I had for my country. I think I’ll move to Canada.
