General Question

Can you help me navigate the UN website?

Asked by laureth (27199points) March 26th, 2011

The United Nations website (at un.org) is seemingly impossible to navigate and find what I need. Do you have experience using it, and if so, can you help me find Egypt’s opening speech to the general assembly from September 2010?

Yes, it is for homework, but finding the speech is only the first step, not the whole assignment. The rest of it I can do myself, thanks.

Please note that this is a question about finding a speech on a complex website, and not a call for political diatribes for or against Egypt or the United Nations as an organization. Thank you.

www.un.org/en/ga/president/65/issues/sids/Egypt.pdf

And the site is hard to use. A query on google for “AHMED ABOUL GHEIT site:un.org” led me to the PDF of his remarks.

Thank you. That certainly looks like a speech by Egypt’s guy, but is it their opening speech to the general assembly?

I believe it is. I’m not a 100% sure but it is what I came up with 30 minutes of digging.

I appreciate your help digging, however it is
The High-level Review Meeting on the Implementation of the
Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the
Barbados Programme of Action for Sustainable Development of
Small Island Developing States
Roundtable II: Enhancing International Support for the SIDS

I do, again, appreciate the help. :) It is indeed a difficult site to use, and I’ve spent the day digging around on there myself.

Have a look at this page which is possibly what you are looking for. The site is pretty complex to use all right.

Thank you, @flutherother – I saw that too, and I’m trying to figure out if I can find the actual verbatim text.

The actual text is in Arabic and the only full translation is the spoken one. I don’t think you will find a complete English translation.

I believe that @flutherother is correct. Here is the transcript in Arabic, and the summary in English in a more readable format.
