Is it wrong that I filed for a FASFA?

Asked by FlutherMeNot (7points) March 30th, 2011

My family is not the richest, however when I was young my grandparents set up a college fund for me. I do have enough money to attend a state school for four years, rent included. I do however have a job and try to pay my rent, car, and expenses by myself in order to not use all of this money. It has been getting harder to do so, so I recently filed a FASFA. By no means did I lie at all on the application, however I was granted a Pell-Grant of a few thousand dollars. My mother says that I should have not filed for the FASFA and should have left it for someone else, as she has a hatred toward those who use government programs. I however legally qualified for it, have been getting great grades in college, and have not filed for the past two years of my school career (I could have, but simply didn’t).

Is it wrong that I applied for FASFA
Would you compare this to getting food stamps? I most likely qualify for them, but don’t feel I need them so don’t get them.
