make that 4 more I see now that are unnamed.

john65pennington's avatar

When the good songs quit coming, I lost track of where I stood in the 80s.

The first half of the 80s was okay. Then, I think all the good song writers died and left us with nothing.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@Blueroses Four movies that are yet unnamed? Or something else from the 80s?

Brian1946's avatar

The shower scene at 2:44 probably refers to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
The shower scene can be seen at 0:40 in the FBDO clip.

Blueroses's avatar

@john65pennington Oh, they were still there. Most were not played on the Clearchannel radio network, but the music never died.

@Brian1946 Well done! you got one of them.

There are also people/references in the crowds… not just the enactments.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Has the one with the rabbit in the top hat been named yet?

Blueroses's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer Yes. That was Fatal Attraction (crazy blonde perm and rabbit) but possible reference to another film also that seems on the tip of my mind

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Desperately Seeking Susan?

aprilsimnel's avatar

“Bikini top” is Fast Times at Ridgemont High, quoting the Phoebe Cates scene when Judge Reinhold is fapping to her at the pool in the cabana.

Blueroses's avatar

check the crowd too. There’s a reference to a well-known director and actors from other 80s films.
Well done @aprilsimnel! you got Fast Times

Brian1946's avatar

The light sabre fight at 2:06 is a reference to The Empire Strikes Back.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

And here is the bikini scene.

Brian1946's avatar

I think the part where he’s dancing on a drawn keyboard is from MJ’s Billy Jean video.

I guess the part where he’s twirling a basketball on his fingertip is a reference to Hoosiers.

Blueroses's avatar

@Brian1946 that may have been, but the main reference there is to Big the FAO Schwarz scene. There’s a really quick one that’s been missed between Nightmare on Elm Street and Twins

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Urban Cowboy?

I just realized that the rabbit is going into a pot and not coming out of a hat.

Blueroses's avatar

yes @Pied_Pfeffer can you find the 80s director? and 2 actors?

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

The three of them make an appearance in the video somewhere?

Blueroses's avatar

or direct references to them. one has been mistaken for Michael Jackson but look closer and it isn’t supposed to be him. It’s….?

Brian1946's avatar

Is the guy in the red jacket a reference to George Lukas?

Blueroses's avatar

Not John Hughes. His films are in there, but that’s not the director reference I noticed.

Brian1946's avatar

@Blueroses

I changed my answer to George Lukas.

Blueroses's avatar

Nope. Not Lucas either. The black man in the red leather jacket is not MJ. That jacket was associated with another person without whom, 80s comedy would be incomplete.

For the director, look for large glasses

Brian1946's avatar

Eddie Murphy?

Blueroses's avatar

Bingo @Brian1946 for one actor. Eddie Murphy’s Delirious tour made that jacket famous.

Brian1946's avatar

I think the director referenced by the portly dude with the beard and large glasses is Francis Ford Coppola.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@all, in case you didn’t know, John Hughes died August 2009, FYI. :(

saintDrew's avatar

I wasnt even a sperm in the 80s..im pretty sure my pops had a medium sized afro..they all did…

aprilsimnel's avatar

In the 80s? No, no, no, @saintDrew. Let me introduce you to the jheri curl. That’s probably what your pops had. I remember grownups freaking out that activator (wet and greasy stuff that relaxed kinky hair into that style) was going to ruin the fabric on their living room couches.

Only “Herbs” (definition #2) still had an Afro by 1983.

Blueroses's avatar

@Brian1946 I hadn’t noticed Coppola. Good one. The one I picked up was Spike Lee, looking like this

Wasn’t jheri curl a running joke? pun intended. How sexy was wet, stinky hair?

Brian1946's avatar

@Blueroses

“The one I picked up was Spike Lee….”

I think I picked up on Spike too, but I forgot to mention him.
Isn’t he the guy with the blue jacket in the video?

aprilsimnel's avatar

@Blueroses, when done professionally, the style could look great. Accent on look. But many self-maintainers were inevitably heavy-handed with that bottle of activator and that always ended up a hot mess.

I think Pedro Martinez and that white guy who plays Kenny the baseballer on HBO still rock jheri curls, lo, these 30 years later.

Blueroses's avatar

Yes @Brian1946 at 2:25 in the video.

That just cracks me up. The idea of guys running around spraying their heads constantly. I don’t think a white guy can pull off the look under any circumstances but rockin’ a jheri curl mullet has to be the ultimate “bad idea”.

choreplay's avatar

@Jude, that would have been Christy Brinkly in that red bikini, coming out of the pool in the movie vacation. The only poster I ever wanted in the 80s, Christy is still stunning and I am still trying to figure out how Billy Joel married her. You almost missed Breakfast Club, did you get Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pritty in Pink, Purple Rain, and the list goes on, St Elmos Fire.

Oh, wait, haven’t even watched the video yet. Sorry, brb.

choreplay's avatar

@Jude, I was wrong, that was Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Christy was in Vacation in a pool scene though, but that reference was to Fast Times, the give away was the way she was disrobing, :0

choreplay's avatar

Oh I fricken love it, knorlly, mint, rad, ok on with the movies. Risky Business, Footloose, Big, Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Phoebe Cates I LOVE YOU), Say Anything, Dirty Dancing (RIP Patrick), Ghost Busters, Weird Science, Poltergeist, Top Gun, Ghost, Karate Kid, Mermaid, Back to the Future, Flashdance, Ground Hog Day, Blues Brothers, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty in Pink (correct spelling this time), St Elmos Fire.
