Do you remember this ebay auction?

Asked by mowens (8403points) April 11th, 2011

It was hillarious. I would say it was from 2003–2005.

I dont remember any specifics other then that the item he was selling was haunted, and he had hoped that selling it instead of giving it away would break the curse. No matter what he did, he always got the item back. He posted several updates on why the particular item was scaring him that hour. Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

I googled ‘haunted ebay auction’ and got this :

is this it?

@trickface That is seriously creepy. If those things were seriously happening I would chuck that painting in a dumpster far, far away. Or move far, far away. Hell, I would run screaming from the house if a boy from a painting was standing in my room. There is no way I would take the time to auction it off on eBay. Based on that, they’re full of it – it would be impossible to live with that. Nice story, though, especially if it makes you over $1mil.

also there are more plotholes : aside from taking the time to place a painting on ebay AND describing it as haunted, why would you place a surreal, dark painting like that in a 4year old’s bedroom? The story is as the OP said, hilarious. The story is that they recorded the hauntings themselves with a motion capture camera, where exactly is that footage? nowhere to be seen. Finally the story describes many viewers of the auction feeling “repulsed” and blacking out simply be looking at the image online. LOL. This tale entertained me massively for small while. Hoaxing is a funny art for sure.

What about the guy that was auctioning off his wife’s wedding dress, and the picture of the item was of him wearing it? Another classic.

@trickface I dont think that was it. It was a stupid item, if that makes any sense. It was written for humor. But, a good read nonetheless. :)
