How long was the typical "Nantucket Sleighride"?

Both in duration and distance. Seems like it might have been pretty wild.

Huzzah for questions about my homeland!

I really don’t think there’s a good general answer for that. Depending on the type of whale we’re talking about, and the amount of energy already exerted, it could be a few as two or as many as twenty minutes. And don’t quote me on this, but I believe that many sleigh-rides we’re cut short because either the whale would attempt to dive or had dragged the chase boat too far from the main vessel, and the crew had to cut the lines.

There also used to be a shop called The Nantucket Sleigh-ride that sold Christmas knick-knacks that you could spend hours in admiring the details of the ornaments. Hope that helps :P
