Is it getting to be Spring where you are?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) April 12th, 2011

Yesterday the grass on the lawn changed from brown to green, in a day, and the trees are just starting to bud. The maple sap is still running for now, although a few warm days will finish that. What’s it doing where you are?

Springing up in the T-dot! Yesterday it was 23C and I saw a few crocuses blooming around campus. The trees are slowly beginning to bud, and yesterday I sneezed all day because the windows were open (I don’t usually get spring allergies, but this is my first spring in a different city).

It’s only supposed to be around 13C today, but the sun is shining and, after a few gloomy days, that’s enough for me!

Oh yeah, it’s exploded in the last few weeks.
Just had my first mow and weed eat and the trees and grass are out of control.

Had to water all my deck plants for the 1st time yesterday, and, the allergies are in full swing, my cat is even sneezing. haha

Not to mention the wildlife.

In the last 48 hours my cats have brought in 5 lizards, 2 baby bats, 2 Juncos and a mouse.

I wrote yesterday in another thread that I am under siege!

@Coloma I hope the cats are all vaccinated for rabies?

Yes, I just did my first mowing of the season last Sunday. It’s getting much warmer and the trees are starting to bud here.

Flowers are popping up all over my yard. I moved into a new house and it is like Christmas morning seeing all the wonderful new spring flowers. Crocus, Hyacinths of all colors, daffodils and pretty little tiny purple thingys! lol!

@Adirondackwannabe

Yep, it’s a must, especially up here in the hills.

Yep. We’ve had some lovely hot days recently. It’s a bit cooler now but the sun is still trying to come out!

Yes. All the trees are in blossom, triggering my hayfever, and it was a lovely warm weekend. Cooler today though.

Oh heck yeah. Brought my coat this morning, but the whole day when I went for breaks and all, I was outside with a short sleeve shirt, it was awesome.

It sure Has been spring for weeks. All the trees have leaves now. The roses are blooming all over the neighborhood including at our back fence as are the azaleas. I’ve already planted jalapenos, tomatoes, cilantro and bell peppers. I forgot cherry tomatoes. Looking forward to planting garlic for the first time ever. The mint is coming back with a vengeance, the rosemary bush looks fine. The yard looks awful; full of weeds and dead spots while the neighbors’ yards look great.

I envy all of you. My tulips are up but there is still almost a foot of snow in my front yard! The only dirt I get my fingers in is in an indoor plant pot!

Cruiser's avatar

@faye As much as the flowers are nice…I already miss my snow!

faye's avatar

@Cruiser I can’t imagine that!

Cruiser's avatar

@faye it hit 82 here the other day…I looked wistfully at my snow shovels as I put them away in the roasting hot garage attic.

pshizzle's avatar

@Cruiser How could you possibly be missing the snow? I am miserable in New England winter!

Cruiser's avatar

I am Swedish and LOVE the snow! I love swimming in a river here too!

pshizzle's avatar

Well that makes sense!

faye's avatar

Well, @Cruiser Come on up! It’s snowing in Alberta and supposed to snow more on the weekend. We are all feeling dismal.

pshizzle's avatar

@faye Do you like snow too?

Berserker's avatar

It’s snowing right now…

faye's avatar

@pshizzle No and no. I’d love to never see another snow flake!!

@faye Throw a stew in the Dutch oven and break out the cross country skiis and when you get back have a glass of merlot with a bowl of hot stew. That combo doesn’t fly in July! YUM!

faye's avatar

@Cruiser I’d rather throw some steak on the barbie, sit under a shade tree with a beer. Or throw some wood in the firepit and sit around counting the stars, with a beer. This is my kind of combo. We’ve had snow since Nov 16 and I woke up this am to another couple of inches. Too much. I would break your skiis over the nearest weatherman’s head!!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Cruiser I thought of you this morning when I got up and saw the ground was white. Bite me came to mind.

Cruiser's avatar

@faye I got my snow fix in this morning! We got a sloppy layer of the wet kind this am!! WOOT!

@Adirondackwannabe You can blame me but it ain’t gonna do a bit of good! XD
