Problems going "back" on Firefox?

Asked by stemnyjones (3976points) April 12th, 2011

I thought that the new update would fix it, but it hasn’t.

When I open a new tab (which I do a lot if I’m going to be clicking multiple links on the same page), everything seems normal. But then when I navigate to another page on the new tab, I can’t hit the “back” button to get back to the page I had originally opened in a new tab.

For example. I go to google images and open one of the pics in a new tab. I click “full size image” to see what it looks like bigger. But then I can’t press ‘back’... I have to either re-enter the URL to google images or close the tab and open it again in the original window.

I googled “can’t go back on Firefox” but the top results were all from 2008.

Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

Have you tried hitting the backspace button?

The new tab has no history, it’s new. It has no “back”. That is by design.

That’s what she’s asking?

Didn’t read it right then

Sorry, I didn’t explain this right.

When I open something in the new tab, I know that it doesn’t have any history to ‘back’ to.

I’m only talking about opening something in a new tab, then clicking a link that opens within that same tab, then trying to click the ‘back’ button. The button is greyed and isn’t clickable.

“I go to google images and open one of the pics in a new tab. I click ‘full size image’ to see what it looks like bigger. But then I can’t press ‘back’...”

I did that, then I single-left clicked on the “full size image” link, and I got an enabled back arrow on the “full size image” page under the second tab.

I have Firefox 4.0.

Yeah, my settings are correct, it just doesn’t work for me a lot of the time…
