Anyone else listen to David Sedaris?

Asked by gmander (1141points) April 22nd, 2011

I started listening to a series of his stories on BBC Radio 4 a couple of weeks ago. I love his readings of his own stories. He’s like a strange cross between Garrison Keillor and Truman Capote. Absorbing and lovely.

It’s being repeated on Radio 4 right now. He’s funny!

I’ve never had the chance to listen to him, but when I read Me Talk Pretty One Day (a book he wrote) I couldn’t stop laughing for a week!

David Sedaris is fabulous! I have been a fan for a long time.. If you want a real treat pick up a copy of Me Talk Pretty One Day, it is laugh out loud funny. He also did an incredible piece on This American Life for NPR the week of the September 11th attacks.

Usually hear him on NPR, This American Life, and Fresh Air. Like @SuperMouse, I’ve been listening to him for an awful long time. I think I remember the first time they played Santaland Diaries. I don’t like listening to Santaland any more because they have played it way too often. But I like his other stories. He’s been on other shows, too, I think. I can’t remember which ones. 360? That ”[something] Shorts” show? I think he’s on the permanent payroll for public radio in the US. Oh yeah, the New Yorker stories, too.

I adore Sedaris! I have every book he’s ever written in print and audio formats and his live performances make the best listening. I get so absorbed in his stories like “The Youth in Asia”, “Six to Eight Black Men”, “Rooster at the Hitching Post” and when I need a smile, I can always turn to Stadium Pal

I’ve never actually heard his voice, but I’ve read all of his books. Very funny, yet subtle.

Love him! I love how he reads his own work and his writing makes me laugh out loud. “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim” and “Santaland Diaries” are my favorites.

His version of Billie Holiday singing “Away in a Manger” is side-splittingly awesome.
