How can I get natural blonde highlights in my hair?

Asked by viscaria1800 (189points) April 26th, 2011

I tried lemon juice but I don’t think it was pure lemon juice, it worked barely but its not that noticeable. I don’t want to dye it and I just want natural high lights. I’ve also heard certain kinds of vinegar. (I have brown hair btw). Does bleach turn your hair like BLEACH blonde or just normal blonde? If you mix bleach with water is it not as an intense whitey color or does that not do anything? Also does anyone know of any tips to help my hair grow faster? My hair grows REALLY slow like an inch and a half a year. I do straighten it almost everyday, but so does my sister and hers grows way faster.

Do not use household bleach on your hair if that is what you mean. Do not use peroxide on your hair either. That will turn it red. About the only way to get blonde highlights in brown hair is to use lemon juice and go out in the sun and that might not give you the results you want. To make your hair grow faster you might try vitamins for hair or biotin. If you are straightening your hair though, you might be breaking off the ends and your hair isn’t getting the chance to grow.

Q: How can I get natural blonde highlights in my hair?

The correct answer, of course, would be to go in the sun, with parts of your hair exposed.
That would be the only way to get NATURAL blonde highlights.

Putting peroxide or bleach in your hair wouldn’t be “natural”. You can’t “get” natural highlights, you have to be out in the sun and let it happen naturally.

I mean natural more like at home without purposefully buying product for your hair.

As @chyna said, lemon juice only works if you go out in the sun. I’ve heard that chamomile tea has the same effect. My aunt used to give me these chamomile hair products that were supposed to give me blonde highlights.

Sun. Go outside in the sun, cover your face so you don’t damage your skin. You don’t need to put anything in your hair, the sun will lighten it.

If you want to use a chemical you can use jolen hair lightner for something cheap and quick. Try a little on some hair ends that you won’t freak out about if you want to cut it. It is a paste used to lighten mustache hair on women. I used to use it on my roots when my highlights would begin to grow out. Don’t leave on too long, and don’t put it all over your hair, just kinda on randomly. I used to put it on my finger tips and kind of run my fingers through my hair. I assume it has peroxide in it? I do not recommend this if you ahve lots and lots of long hair. Also, if you have reddish undertones, the bleaching out process will give you reddish highlights possibly, not blond.

Like the others have said, get out in the sun. I spend a lot of time outside in the summer and my hair turns very blonde, much like it was when I was a child. During the winter months it gets that dirty dishwater color from not being outside as much.

Camomile tea!

Rinse your hair with white vinegar at least once a week. Not only will it give you subtle blonde highlights, it will also remove build up from your hair products, making your hair soft and shiny.
