Why does Michael Clayton stop his car and go look at the horses?

Asked by josie (30934points) May 1st, 2011

I love the movie Michael Clayton. In fact, if a military buddy had not called me Josey Wales (he misspelled it Josie), I think my fluther name might have been Michael Clayton. I sort of identify with the the guy in the movie.
There are several fabulous scenes in the movie, but one of them always intrigues me. It is when MC stops his car on a country road and walks up to the horses.
I know that interpretation of movies is a wide open business.
But why do you think he does that? What does that scene mean?

I don’t know why, either. I assumed he was taking a break from his city life to remember nature or something.

It could mean the writer who was also the director needed a reason for him to get out of the car so he will miss his death. With him staring at horses instead of just peeing at a tree would provide some dramatic element that like you said is open for interpretation. I still think it’s only because it’s better than peeing at a tree.

Director – ” Oh hey George? Listen what if instead of you needing to do number one, you see those horses there, walk slowly towards them like you see yourself in them, wandering, just wandering…and boom goes your car in the background, how’s that? Works for you?”
