Any natural blondes have experience using chamomile on hair?

Asked by SundayKittens (5834points) May 3rd, 2011

I’m trying to convert to natural hair care. My naturally blonde hair has been coming in a bit darker as I’ve gotten older. Has anyone used chamomile as a natural lightener? I don’t want to be white blonde…just a natural, summery shade lighter. Don’t want to damage my hair, though. Advice?

When I was very young and blond and when my daughter was the same, we used a lemon juice rinse (squeezed from fresh fruit) after our shampoo. Then the summer sun did all the work.

Never heard of it, but I have som chamomile oil, maybe I’ll try it on my roots.

I’m not blonde, obviously, but the chamomile tea will lighten your hair. Just brew some tea, let it cool, and pour through your hair. Massage it in, then rinse with cool water. It will most likely take a few applications to see the results you want.
I’ve used black tea to darken my hair before, and it’s the same process. Good for you for going the natural route!

Like @gailcalled said, I used to use lemon juice. I poured it into a spray bottle, misted my head and went out to play in the Florida sunshine. Instantly more blonde. I’ve heard of chamomile tea being used before, but I happened to have tried the lemon juice first and liked it.

Once it didn’t lighten it in a pattern I found natural, it was all over and didn’t have much definition. So I dunked my hands in lemon juice, put up my hair in ponytail, dunked again and smoothed down the top and sides of my head. Went out for a bike ride, swimming. Face framing highlight success!

Thanks guys. Do you think this method will be particularly damaging?

It’s completely safe.
