How do you deal with moving?

Asked by Kokoro (1424points) May 9th, 2011 from iPhone

How do you deal with moving away? I have a few months left here and don’t know how to act with friends. Is it easier if you distance yourself a little so it won’t hurt when you abruptly depart?

There is always a way to stay in touch with people.Moving for me had never been traumatic.

How far away are you going?

Spend as much time with your friends as you can. You’ll regret it if you don’t. I moved to Illinois from Las Vegas when I was 16 and it was really hard for me at first, but I quickly made friends when I moved. I made some great memories with my good friends just before I moved. Memories I’ll never forget.

You are lucky you are living in the day and age of internet and cell phones. You can still keep in contact with those you are closest with.

Oh, I guess that’s a little too far for frequent weekend visits. LucyThrice and @jonsblond have it spot on.

Be with your friends as much as possible, have fun. Now, with texting and facebook you can stay in touch even when far away. You will make new friends in the new place also. Don’t worry, the more you experience and the more people you meet the better.

Your friends will still be your friends. Don’t lose some of this special time with them by becoming distant in advance.

Work to make new friends in your new place. Moving is stressful. Go easy on yourself.
