Does WalMart own Lowes?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) May 16th, 2011

The more I travel, the more I see a Lowe’s Hardware Store situated closebye a WalMart Store. Even the colors are almost the same. Each store in Nashville is either on the same property as WalMart, across the street, or next door. If they are not owned by the same owner, then it’s really a coincidence. Question: does WalMart have a continuing interest in Lowe’s Hardware Stores?

I don’t believe there is any connection between Lowes and Walmart. Where I live none of the Lowes and Walmarts are really near each other. Maybe you are noticing it because that’s what you’re looking for. Sometimes once you think something is going on you look for it. Big box stores congregate because of local zoning ordinances.

Who owns Lowes

Who owns Walmart

Or maybe it’s the Vanguard Group and the State Street Corporation that are behind it all. :-)

If developers/property managers have had success with particular stores before then they’ll actively court those business to move into their locales, especially when building new from the ground up and wanted tried and true tenants in as little time as possible.

Sorry I can’t help you, but for what it’s worth there is a Lowe’s right next to our local WalMart, too.

No.

“In 1960, Carl Buchan died of a heart attack at age 44. His five-man executive team, which included Robert Strickland and Leonard Herring, took the company public in 1961. By 1962 Lowe’s operated 21 stores and reported annual revenues of $32 million.[1][6]

Lowe’s continued to expand throughout the southeast United States. Lowe’s has since grown nationally, aided by the purchase of Eagle Hardware & Garden in 1999. It is now the second-largest home improvement chain in North America, and has begun expanding outside the United States”
