Do you know any social entrepreneurs in the Bay Area who would like to speak to a group of high schoolers?

Asked by maudie (363points) May 19th, 2011

My dear friend is an English teacher at a charter school in East Palo Alto (a rough neighborhood). For the last three weeks of the year, she’s having her kids work on a final project around the topic of social entrepreneurship/social enterprise. She says the kids are really excited by the topic, and she’s looking for people working in the space to come and speak with her class about their experience. Do you know anyone who might enjoy doing this?

Fluther is based in San Francisco, so I’ve forwarded your question to our founders to see if they (or someone they know) might be able to help out.

Aw, @augie beat me. I was thinking of either of our own founders as good resources too.

I’m just curious what “social” entrepreneurs are or might be. Unless you mean “sociable” entrepreneurs, perhaps.

@WasCy I gave you a “Great Answer” even though it was more of a “Great Question.” Social enterprise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_enterprise. My teacher-friend also forwards this video (a commitment at 55 minutes): http://video.pbs.org/video/1522507636

I was going to suggest Ben/Andrew as well.
