How can I fix my headphones?

Asked by sunssi (120points) May 21st, 2011

The sound has stopped in one speaker and the audio in looks like this http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/3/L11144276.jpg

is there a tutorial to help me repair this type of cable as I’m assuming it’s because of that.

My first advice would be to contact the manufacturer to see if they have any suggestions or if possible you could send them in. What type do you have?

You are assuming that there is a cord problem, which is possible, but do you know if it’s a spot in the cable or the jack? It’s possible you might not replace the right part of the cable if you do this.

If you still want to try, this http://www.instructables.com/id/Easy-Headphone-Repair-for-Broken-Wires/ tutorial should show you what you need to do.

Good Luck!

Take it to the manufacterer as @cbloom8 said. That way you can guarantee it’ll get fixed properly. You might mess it up instead of fixing it. :\

If the cable looks okay I would test them in something else. There is a good chance it is actually a problem with the jack on the device you are plugging it into. Sometimes spinning the cord around will help.

@johnpowell is right – wiggle the jack and the cord and see if anything changes. If nothing does, it’s probably not a cord/jack issue.

Sounds liek you wont have the know how or tools to fix it, get a replacement if its under warantee or take them back

@JohnPowell you’re right. You might want to try cleaning the jack as sometimes that can mess up the sound.
