How to fix USB device not recgonized (malfunction)?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) May 23rd, 2011

The thing is, all my usb ports on my laptop has worked in the past, so I’m not sure why I’m getting this error now.

Also, I just now tried a completely different usb device, like my WD Passport and that worked just fine.

So for some reason, only my music player is giving me problems.

I am trying to add more music to my music player. I’ve been able to use this device before and it worked just fine.

I am using Vista 64 bit.

Unplugging and replugging the usb device did NOT WORK. I still get the same error message.

I haven’t tried unplugging the laptop’s power source and taking the battery out, so that’s my next option.

If that doesn’t work, any other suggestions on how to fix this problem?

What music player? That is the important piece of info.

If you think the problem is with the music player, try resetting it or restoring it to factory settings.

Have you tried plugging the device into a different computer?

I worked it out…not sure if this was what the problem was…but apparently the player had frozen while plugged in so I turned it off then on again so everything is fine now.

Thanks everybody!!
