What are some cute, crafty ideas I can do during my pregnancy in preparation for the baby?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) May 25th, 2011 from iPhone

I’ve taken a few pregnancy photos and started a scrapbook. What are some other things I can do to remember this special time?

What about starting a blog? You can upload the photos on it as well.

A friend started a powerpoint with a page a month for the baby/kids. She puts up one photo for the month, and a text block about accomplishments, milestones, things that happened. They’re in middle school now; she’s kept it up for 13 and 11 years each so far.

Make a journal. In it write down everything that happens and what you learn. Like @Pied_Pfeffer said, you could start a blog all about your baby, or you could make a video diary explaining everything from what’s happening now to what you plan to do in the future.

Depending on the scrapbook, write letters to your kid. They might not “understand” when they’re a child, but save them for when he or she is 30. If I ever have a kid, I’ve considered doing this. “Dear baby: later on in life you will hear such phrases as, ‘Before you were a twinkle in your daddy’s eye. Well, that would be now.” etc

You can knit a baby blanket. The square knitting looms make it really easy, it’s not at all the complicated task that knitting actually is, with the loosing it off one sharp needle, or forgetting to pearl… I’ve used the round ones to make hats and scarfs quite a bit. You can find them at hobby stores like Joannes or even at Walmart, if they have a couple crafts aisles at yours. And then you just keep the blanket forever, while washing it throughly with bleach every now and again.

@MyNewtBoobs I’ve always wanted to knit but I always thought it was really difficult to learn.

@ItalianPrincess1217 I honestly don’t know how to knit properly. I was taught, but it never stuck. The looms aren’t “real” knitting, but the scarfs are just as cute! If you can tie your shoelaces, you can do the looms. Course, if you can’t tie your shoelaces… well, you’re going to have a baby soon, learn, dammit!

I taught myself to knit while I was pregnant with my first son. The illustrations in the book I used were very useful. You can find it all online now. I made a layette set, and have knitted many, many things since then.

I printed out a “month a page” calendar starting with the month I found out I was pregnant and the next 11 months. I’ve written down weeks gestation, family birthdays, OB appointments, due date, etc. I’d like to put all baby-relevant things on it and keep it for the kid (either in a scrapbook or just in a box).

My husband is planning on videotaping a reenactment of our pregnancy test-taking saga (we both had diarrhea and I was stuck in the bathroom, so when he was able to come upstairs I slipped it under the bathroom door for him).

You can embroider cute little sayings or pictures or even names and nicknames on your babies onsies, I never did it for my own tsk tsk tsk but I did it for my cousins twins only so he can tell them appart and then after that alllllllll my family members that are expecting or have babies that still fit into onsies have asked me to make them some. They are very cute and you can personalize them to you and your baby.
