Laundry detergent bottle?

Asked by gabbypotterrr (286points) May 27th, 2011

I’m a college student and I’m going to be moving into an apartment that will require me to go to a laundromat every week.

I need to know if there are any smaller bottles (and where they are sold – online preferably) that I can maybe pour detergent into so that it will be easier to carry.

Thanks for the suggestions!
If you have any tips to make this process easier, feel free to share!

This isn’t online but if you have a dollar store nearby, they usually sell bags or boxes of single use foil packs of detergent. Just make sure it’s economical.

This is what I use. It’s small and portable, very powerful and environmentally friendly. I just tuck it into the little pocket on the side of my laundry bag and go. This stuff is very good and while it may seem like there’s not much in there, it is true that four pumps is all you need.

You can get a large size with this kind of button dispenser and use it to fill a small squeeze bottle which you can find at a dollar store or craft supply (like Michael’s). That would be a cheap way to go.

Buy a large bottle and use it to fill a used water bottle. Economical and less wasteful.

I like to use an empty larger liquid dishsoap bottle, the kind with the pop up squirt button. If you know approx. how much to squeeze out for a load then this works great because there are no drips afterwards and you can refill it from the larger container any time.

Powder is a lot cheaper. Put single-load portions in zip-loc snack bags and you only have to carry a few ounces on each trip. That’s what I used to do.

@KatawaGrey

I’ve bought soap from Method! I LOVE it.
I’m going to give this a try – thank you so much :)

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions!

@gabbypotterrr: Method has fabulous stuff! I order from an office supply online to get the industrial sized refills of the lavender hand gel soap and I use that on my girlie laundry too.

I used to use the empty “bottled water” bottle in college, too. It fit right in with my clothes.

@laureth has it nailed….free and in unlimited supply. You can probably find empties to refill at the laundromat.

You could also get a small laundry detergent bottle at a dollar store and refill it from a larger bottle, or get a small size of a 3 Xs concentrated detergent like this.
