Should I remove my SIM card before selling used phone?

I have a Blackberry 9330 that is not carrier branded on the case. It was brand new from Alltel in November, 2010 and used for 4 months before AT&T replaced it for their own network phone.
I’ve used the BB software to clear the SIM and reset the old phone to defaults but I’m wondering if the SIM is carrier specific? Is it better to remove the card or leave it in place?
This model will still work for Verizon and Sprint subscribers.
