Wouldn't it be better if Anthony Weiner stayed in office?

Asked by josie (30934points) June 9th, 2011

Most politicians are amoral reprobates, who love themselves and their priviledges much more than they give a shit about their constituents.

Isn’t it just as well that we all recognize it, and let them serve having that knowledge of them, and having them bear the stigma?

Wouldn’t that make it harder for them to screw up our lives and our civilization?

Weiner (and others like him) are self righteous and wear a veil of false legitimacy. Wouldn’t it be better if they just walked around in their dirty underwear (so to speak)?

From what I know, Weiner has good politics (“good” as in better than many). I don’t care at all what kind of sex, sexting, or other scandalous activity he’s involved in.

I agree about politicians being horrible people. It just might take a horrible person to be able to play the slippery game and make it that far. When someone can take some non-work related scandal to distract the country from real stuff (yes, I’m hinting at Clinton here), and sell it to the public so easily (with help from the media), it’s difficult not feel that we are a nation of sheep.

He’s the most virulant dem in Congress,so any reason to get rid of him is alright by me. ;)

@josie You posted a question about The Wiener a week ago. You really have a hard-on for this guy.

SavoirFaire's avatar

I have no evidence that he doesn’t give a shit about his constituents. I have evidence that he orchestrated the shortest coverup in political history for the least severe “sexual” scandal in political history.

josie's avatar

@FutureMemory
He’s the guy with the hard-on. Not me. But I do enjoy it when politicians (of any stripe) get exposed for what they really are. That gives me pleasure to be sure, but not a hard-on.

I’ve been waiting to say this joke, but with a wang like that…..Wiener needs to be president now. Haha!

Ok I’m sorry…..But that’s actually a good idea, Josie. Unless he puts on a couple of pounds, then shouldn’t he resign?

zenvelo's avatar

He hasn’t broken a law. He is considered a good representative by his constituents (the only group that should decide). And until those calling for him to resign also clamor for the resignation of sexual criminals such as David Vitter, I think he should be left to explain things to his wife.

I am actually getting tired of the self-righteousness of people upset about politicians having affairs. It’s a private matter for them and their families.

FutureMemory's avatar

@Blackberry So it’s really big, eh?

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

The only times I have an issue with politicians having any kind of sex scandal is if it affects their ability to do their job (like giving money or other perks meant for the job to their mistress) or if they themselves are trying to legislate my sexual morality. If they’re leading the charge on reinstating sodomy as a crime, then I have some serious issues with them engaging in it. But otherwise, I believe it’s an issue between them and their families, and no one else.

Gadzooks! Why is it every time we discover out elected officials are really mortal humans like ourselves we want to toss them? I say if he is to be tossed it is what he did, or didn’t do, in office not whom bed he ended up in. It is kind of two-faced and disingenuous to me, place name of Boorish star or athlete here gets caught cheating in a seedy motel with a hooker high on insert whatever substance here and many are quick to forgive and forget, but let it be an official then everyone wants him/her to leave office. Since when has being elected, make someone super moral, wise, and upstanding or anything? They are “us” just with the title we gave them, nothing more.

josie's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central My point exactly. Shouldn’t we embrace the politicians who are creepy morons like ourselves, and be suspicious of the ones who pretend that they are not? If we took that approach, we would know that they are full of shit.

FutureMemory's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central Fact from fiction, right?!?

Blackberry's avatar

@FutureMemory Lol! Yeah, fact from fiction. And it is pretty big, or at least the camera added 10 pounds (I’m not gay, I swear lol).

Blackberry's avatar

@FutureMemory I refuse to google a politicians genitals….....I have a line lol.

FutureMemory's avatar

@Blackberry You’re going from memory then..or?

FutureMemory's avatar

Sorry BB, I think someone slipped me a silly pill with dinner ;)

Blackberry's avatar

I was pwned, I accept defeat.

Garebo's avatar

You know his wife isn’t genuinely jealous, perturbed or hurt, as far as I can tell. I wonder why.

woodcutter's avatar

I want to know if he was doing this while at work, you know, the place where they are supposed to be doing their job. I don’t want to know he plays with himself off the job but with the mess this country is in it looks like somebody has too much time on their hands…as well as other stuff.

chyna's avatar

@Garebo How can you tell? She isn’t going to fall to pieces in public. Maria Shriver didn’t fall apart in public, yet no one knows how she is really dealing with her husband cheating.

josie's avatar

@Blackberry I saw the pictures. What is the big deal?

mazingerz88's avatar

I have no problem with horny gay or horny heterosexual politicians. I have a problem with politicians who are horny yet hypocritical. : )

Blackberry's avatar

@josie Weiner is packing lol.

chyna's avatar

As long as he isn’t sending pictures of his penis to underage girls, I’m not sure what can be done to him.

Blackberry's avatar

@woodcutter In one of his pictures, there’s framed photos of his family in the background.

josie's avatar

@Blackberry Shit. If that’s all it you need, maybe I should be a Senator, or President.

Blackberry's avatar

@josie Only if you run as a Democrat!

woodcutter's avatar

@Blackberry Ah. So it looks like he was in the office? I hope he locks the door I would be traumatized to walk in unaware.

SavoirFaire's avatar

The funny thing is, he didn’t even wind up in anyone’s bed. He’s in trouble for using the internet to get himself turned on and/or gather wank material (the lying and whatever else he did wrong would not have independently landed him in trouble, regardless of whether or not one thinks it should have). The “scandal” is all about sexy chats and racy pictures. I suppose we’ll be investigating every Congressmen who has ever used pornography next?

I also think the people trying to frame this in terms of “what he did to his wife” are being terribly naive. We don’t know what he and his wife have agreed to. Take any professional couple that spends a lot of time apart for work-related reasons. All of them are likely to be doing something on the side, even if its just flirting with members of their preferred sex(es) for a bit of attention. Many of these couples have arrangements to accommodate one another’s needs. Some of them even go so far as to have open relationships.

This isn’t to say that there isn’t also a whole lot of cheating going on, only that we do not know. And thanks to a significant portion of the voting population going into paroxysms of rage at the mention of anything that isn’t a completely monogamous heterosexual marriage, we are destined to be lied to. It is political suicide to tell the truth, so we get sex “scandal” after sex “scandal.” Because in modern America, the truth about sex is itself scandalous.

SavoirFaire's avatar

Also, I’d vote @josie for president. But only if he’ll debate Hamster.

Haleth's avatar

Heh… weiner. My reaction to the whole thing, pretty much.

JLeslie's avatar

I think all this obsession with a politcians private life in general is stupid. If he has used government funds for his mistress, then he should be out in a minute. But, if he is just another arrogant id driven cheating man, I see no reason to toss him out of politics. That flaw in his personality is his wife and family’s problem.

Now the thing with this current issue regarding Weiner is it shows such poor judgment. The internet? Idiot. But, if he can do his job well, I still would overlook it, assuming he has learned his lesson. I don’t feel sure he will never cheat on his wife in the future, but I like to think he won’t be posting naked pictures.

Do we care if the CEO of GE or Ford cheats on his wife? Or that they increase the bottom line and produce quality service and goods. Clergy, now that is different; they should be held to a higher standard. Oh, and any politician crucifying another politician for an affair, I just hate hypocrisy.

ucme's avatar

I’m thinking yes it would be better….for the purpose of ripping the piss out of the prick whenever he’s in the public eye. Always hilarious to see a politician embroiled in a scandal like this, takes away any credibility they think they have left. Pissant politicians…gotta love em!

sinscriven's avatar

The Republicans want him out because he’s a threat, and the Dems want him out because he threatens the “liberal” status quo. If this was about morality then Senator Vitter should be thrown out face first for cheating on his wife by actually sticking his meat into prostitutes instead of just posting them on twitter; And if it were about honesty, we’d have drawn and quartered the entire Bush Administration.

The guy was increasing in popularity and clout for his ideas and now all of washington is trying to snuff him.

Garebo's avatar

Yes, we would get more bad wiener jokes, and maybe a really funny one.
However, I do think Hillary would get quite disturbed with the continual eruptions and potential exposure of her in Wiener Gate.
