Can you solve this simple math problem for me?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) June 10th, 2011 from iPhone

I feel like a complete idiot. This is simple math, I know. If a check is $422.00 and the check cashing fee is 1.86%, how much is the fee? Feel free to break it down so I can figure it out myself next time :)

It is 1.86 times 422, divided by 100.

$7.85

422.00 times .0186 equals 7.8492 (or as Zenvolo says, $7.85.) There ya go, two ways to figure it out.

Here. do it in your head. What is 1% of $422? $4.22 What is 2%? ~$8 So 1.86% must be a little less than $8. The real number is $7.85 as stated above.

I use @worriedguy ‘s method a lot. Round up to something easy to work with and adjust accordingly.

But get a new account or bank if they are charging you the fee…
