Does the India of The Darjeeling Limited exist?

Asked by tom_g (16638points) June 10th, 2011

The India portrayed in The Darjeeling Limited is so beautiful I am wondering if it’s purely the product Wes Anderson’s mind. Has anyone ever been to India? Is it really so colorful and stunning?

huge Wes Anderson fan wondering if a fictional movie is accurately portraying a country. Can this be the “absurd question of the week”?

Lets put it this way, they want to make a light-hearted comedy, they are going to play up the really down trodden slum places and make it more colorful. I have not been to India personally but am a huge fan of the Amazing Race. Amazing Race and most seasons they race through parts of India. Like everywhere, it has its definite high-end modern districts, which could look like any modern first world city anywhere, and it has it slums that would make even the worse neighborhoods in the US look like the Taj Mahal. From what I have seen from clips and trailers of the movie, they polished it a little bit, but a lot of it looked to be what you would see on the Amazing Race. The movie more than likely gussied up many parts to not make it so gloomy.
