I usually have a book or two in mind that I would like to read. Do you? if so what is it and why does it interest you?

“Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day”

This is basically a super sourdough recipe that will keep in the fridge for long periods of time. The idea is that you spend half an hour each weekend making a dough blob and then break of and bake fresh bread each day with little more hassle than it takes to make a piece of toast.

It interests me for several reasons.

1) I like good bread
2) I like “arcane arts”
3) I like to do things myself, especially when doing so results in a superior product and takes no more time/effort than obtaining a commercial equivalent.

Carl Jung’s Redbook. I want to gift it to my mother and then read it after. She’s a Jung fan. I check periodically on amazon.com for it to come around for a price I’m willing to pay, -$50.

Okay, you’re going to think I’m making a joke, but really for real, this book has been on my wishlist for years. I’m very curious to read it, but for some reason, cannot bring myself to buy it. I keep hoping someone will pick it off my wishlist for me. :P

Sodomy and the Pirate Tradition: English Sea Rovers in the Seventeenth-Century Caribbean

I think what’s keeping me from buying it is that it sounds so interesting, but I’m afraid it is going to be really dry and boring in reality. Maybe that’s silly. I mean, we are talking sodomy and pirates here.

The Moomin series by Tove Jansson. It’s a Finnish children’s series that I have been meaning to read for a while now. I have the novels in my cart on Amazon, but I am waiting before placing the order in case there is anything else I want to read.

I saw a copy of The City and the City by China Mieville recently and was thoroughly intrigued by the premise of two cities Bes’el and Ul-Qoma which exist in the same physical space but are quite distinct political entities. The inhabitants of each city have their own customs, dress, and lifestyle but they never notice each other even when they are in the same street. The story begins with a murder in one of the cities. I have requested the book from my local library.

My amazon.com “wish list” grows faster than I can possibly read!
Mostly non-fiction, but wish I had time to re-read the classics I slept through as a teen.

Eve’s Seed: Biology, the Sexes, and the Course of History
Woman Defamed and Woman Defended: An Anthology of Medieval Texts
The Book of the City of Ladies by Christine DePizan
Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival by Maziar Bahari
The Romance of the Rose
La Vita Nuova
Love, Sex and Marriage in the Middle Ages: A Sourcebook
Sexuality in Medieval Europe: Doing Unto Others (I would buy it just for the cover, sadly)
Fairy Tales from Before Fairy Tales: The Medieval Latin Past of Wonderful Lies

Those are just a handful. There are currently over 40 books in the Amazon wishlist I call “For Fun School Reading”.

I just started reading Mark Twain’s Autobiography. 750 pages, and little font. Ugh.
I saw a book in the paper today. It’s a book for parents NOT to read to the kids. It’s called Go the fuck to sleep

I’d love to read the sequel to Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting, Porno. I don’t really like the idea of him basing that book off of the movie’s ending, rather than the ending of the book, no matter how much I think Spud deserves it…but I really wanna read it. I’d also love to read _The Acid House and Filth by the same author.

And I don’t know why, but I just cannot find Desolation by Stephen King. I totally want to read this, and it ties in with Desperation, which rocks me socks.

Over 300 books from Amazon, over 200 others from Barnes and Noble… and thousands others I haven’t laid eyes on yet… maybe I should change linguaphile to bibliophile?

One day I will conquer The Monks of Monk Hall.

And adapt it for the stage. Or puppet theater. It will be awesome.
