What is your favorite healthy snack?

Asked by leopardgecko123 (777points) June 15th, 2011

I need some really good and healthy small snacks. So what is your favorite healthy snack? Here are mine:

apple slices and peanut butter
little cheese cubes and some fruit juice or milk
strawberries and cheese
plain fresh fruit
bread
mini toothpick fruit kebabs with turkey

Get creative!

Carrots with hummus. I prefer whole carrots sliced up… the baby carrots that they sell in the stores just don’t have the same sweetness and flavor of a full sized carrot.
Sunflower seeds and yogurt.
A handful of almonds or mixed nuts.
(I don’t know if they qualify for healthy, depending on your sodium requirements…) olives.

I got the new Ninja blender and just throw pretty much anything and slam a smoothy for my healthy snack. I have lost a good slug of weight from this new gadget! Getting down to my fightin’ weight just in time for headin to the beach!

Oh I love fresh peas from the pod too (raw). Mmmmm.

I love apples and peanut butter too! I’ve also been loving Chobani Greek yogurt. My favorite flavors are pineapple and black cherry, but mango and peach are pretty awesome too.

Roasted garlic hummus is delicious too. And cashews. Also, I make awesome quick breads, like banana bread and zucchini bread. By using some whole wheat flour and subbing applesauce for the oil and other healthier changes, it’s better for you but still amazingly yummy. :)

And fresh tomatoes right out of the garden. A bit of salt and pepper…yummmmmm!! I have some itty bitty tomatoes on my plants and I’m willing them to grow faster!

I’m a bit confused about everyone here’s thinking that cheese, milk, cream, peanut butter, bread are all ‘healthy’....

Healthy? Compared to what, food with more fat, carbs and salt in!?

If you count peanut butter and cream among your ‘healthy snacks’,
I am quite concerned about your normal diet!

Anyway. Mine is Mediterranean salad, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Also, spinach, with a small amount of salted butter, a sprinkling of black pepper, all wrapped up in some lebanese flat-bread.
You can make that fresh, and then microwave it, or you can cook the spinach lightly before putting it in, or you could just eat it all raw.

And fruit, well, I love them- but what would you expect? I’m a primate!

Fresh fruit and yogurt
fruit wrap- whole wheat tortilla, sliced strawberries, apples, or bananas, granola, peanut butter, honey
sliced cucumbers dipped in hummus
sandwich/wrap made with sauteed portobellos, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and bean sprouts
homemade guacamole
raspberry or lemon sorbet
rainbow salad- chopped lettuce, craisins, diced dried apricots, sliced cooked sweet potatoes, walnuts, bit of goat cheese, dijon vinaigrette (balsamic vinegar, olive oil, dijon mustard, honey, s+p)
“deconstructed hummus”- saute a can of chick peas in olive oil, then throw in some lemon juice, parsley, and tahini
olive tapenade on anything- it’s great on wheat bread with tons of lettuce and tomato.
kind bars I’ve been trying to figure out how to make those almond, apricot, coconut ones at home.

I like to make quesadillas with low fat cheese and whole wheat tortillas and then load in some veggies, especially broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and cabbage. Just pop the quesadilla in the microwave open faced with the veggies, then add the sliced cabbage afterwards. Then, maybe put a plop of non-fat plain yogurt on there too. Yum!

Any kind of bean hummus with baked, crispy pita triangles.

Nuts, nuts and more nuts.

Nectarines and Grapefruit slices.

Fresh salsa or home made guacamole with organic, salt-free tortilla chips, Sunchips or bean chips.

Nuts. Always have a jar of nuts on my desk for when I’m hungry but no time to eat properly. I often take a protein shake with me too. Will do for lunch or a snack if I don’t have time for anything else.

@The_Idler I don’t know about others, but I was talking about natural peanut butter. It may not be the healthiest health food, but it’s far better than peanut butter with the added sugars and fats. The ingredients are only peanuts and salt, nothing else.

sounds good
