NSFW- Do you think less or more of someone if they poke smot?

Asked by rOs (3531points) June 21st, 2011

…or to each his own?

Benefits? Drawbacks?

nip those health comments in the bud though, assume they use a vaporizer

If said person has a health related issue and they find pot is helping them through the pain, I say go for it.
If it’s a college kid and is just experimenting, ok.
If it’s an adult living in mom’s basement…not ok

Michael_Huntington's avatar

What someone does with his/her body is none of my business.

Jude's avatar

Nope.

But, if they’re a bigass pothead and are high pretty much all day? No, thanks.

If they need it because they’re in poor health? Of course it’s okay.

Mamradpivo's avatar

If you smoke from time to time, that’s great. If it’s all you do, grow up.

Coloma's avatar

I’m with @Mamradpivo

I am 51 and just this last year or so I have returned to occasional smoking, but, I prefer baked goods. I probably smoked about 10 times over 20+ years, extremely rarely while raising my daughter, but now, I am divorced, my daughter is grown, and if I wish to imbibe from time to time it’s nobodies biz. I live on 5 acres in the mountains and one of my fav. things is, to take, what I call a ‘mini-vacation’, get a little high, wander around my property, sit in my hot tub, star gaze and hang out with my animals. I also ‘use’ it for creative boosts, like getting into re-arranging my house, writing, playing my drums.

I don’t go anywhere, drive, infact, I turn off the phones and go into the Walden Pond zone.
Thoreau me baby! lol

wundayatta's avatar

Nobody really close to me smokes, as far as I know. Maybe one or two. I am generally suspicious of the reasons why people feel a need to alter their consciousness on a daily basis.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

Generally speaking, no. However, if they’re incapacitated and unable to keep promises or maintain sensible relationships with me because of the weed, yeah I don’t need that bs.

RocketGuy's avatar

I’m OK with it, but might be apprehensive that he/she might get fired if smoking on the job. A friend of mine got fired from his ideal job because of drugs. I felt really bad for him.

poisonedantidote's avatar

I smoke weed, and I have to admit, that even I judge weed smokers a little bit.

For example, If I wanted to invest $100.000 in a new business with someone else who has 100k to invest, and the other person was a weed smoker, I would seriously reconsider my decision to invest with that person.

I don’t intend to generalize all pot smokers with what I’m going to say next, but I do intentionally intend to generalize a little bit. That generalization, is that pot smokers, for the most part, are lazy, immature, or unreliable, if not all 3.

They say it takes one to know one, and this is on what I base my opinion, because I was and am one. I have been smoking weed now for about 12 years almost, and while I by no means intend to use the stupid drug cliche of “I know what I’m doing” or “I can handle it”, I still must say, that I handle it much better than some.

I have 2 jobs, I pay my bills, and it does not fuck up my life. I don’t drink, weed is just the thing I do at the end of the day… (and some times at the beginning) ... (and some times during the day).

Linda_Owl's avatar

I have no problem with people who smoke pot. In my opinion, it should have the same legal standing as alcohol does – it does far less damage, & I would much rather deal with a mellow stoner than a drunk.

Coloma's avatar

I think it’s kinda a no brainer to not go to work high, or before driving or to be high from morning til night. Duh! lol
I don’t even understand WHY someone would WANT to be high at work. Seems to cancel out the entire purpose of relaxing and letting the mind chill out. I may enjoy a little fun now and then, but, I prefer to be clear headed 90% of the time.
I treat my indulgence as a cocktail hour, nothing before 4:20 and purely recreational for contemplative, creative and relaxation purposes.

El_Cadejo's avatar

More. Someone new to smoke with :)

Its a weird thing to explain but after you smoke with someone you’re somehow far better friends with them then previously smoking.

@Coloma generally speaking I dont work high but from time to time it can be fun. Its also though because the job I have. Most jobs I would thinking being high then would suck but I just play with animals and shit sooooooooooo :P

poisonedantidote's avatar

I poked smot and how I nav drain bramage

Cruiser's avatar

I really don’t care what people do to relax or how they do it. I would much rather have someone addicted to pot though than alcohol or narcotics. I used to pull bong hits all the time years ago but could not see how I could do the job I do now with the hazy daze that pot brings to the table.

KateTheGreat's avatar

As long as they are still successful, then I don’t care.

I smoke pot, I’m still successful, and I’m NOT living in a basement.

Coloma's avatar

Oh jeez, I have to stop reading this now. Have’nt had any Happy brownies on the range here for about 6 weeks. lol
Tis growing season in these here hills and October is the bountiful harvest, coinciding with the grapes in the vineyards, aaah yes, I do live in a rich agricultural zone indeed. :-)

Of course, my ‘source’ is my ‘gardener’, hahahaha He cuts the grass and then leaves me some clippings too. lolol

SpatzieLover's avatar

@Coloma LOL4RL I’d like a happy brownie please

KateTheGreat's avatar

@Coloma Please share some brownies?

Coloma's avatar

Here’s a funny story, I left a piece of happy brownie in my garage one night for the resident rat that lurks around the feed bins for my animals. It was gone the next morning and I am sure he was one high rat! lolol

Coloma's avatar

@KatetheGreat

It would be my pleasure, but, I don’t want to go to jail for UPS’ing Happy Brownies. hahaha

KateTheGreat's avatar

@Coloma Hahahaha, now thinking of it, that would suck.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

It’s the same as someone who drinks alcohol – if you do it responsibly (not at work, not driving, etc) and it doesn’t interfere with your life, then I don’t care (and will join you). If it does, then it is a problem – but this isn’t because they smoke pot and that’s bad, it’s because they have a fucking addiction, and addictions are bad.

mrrich724's avatar

Nope. In fact, the pot smokers I know have been alot more open minded to life than the stiffs that say “ew, you can’t do that,” simply b/c society has made it a rule…

When someone complains about it (I don’t smoke pot at all by the way), I educate them as to how/why it’s ACTUALLY illegal stateside, and then ask them why they actually think it’s wrong.

I usually get “it just is.” Sorry, not a good answer…

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@mrrich724 it just is yeah, I hate that as an answer to all things, ever. I also don’t care for the Rastafarian flag or Bob Marley Mhan or the movie Half Baked, so clearly I’m really bad at being someone who tokes up.

KateTheGreat's avatar

@MyNewtBoobs I don’t quite like that either. People just fall into that bullshit. It’s weird to me.

Plucky's avatar

Not usually. I agree with @Jude‘s response (along with the corresponding others). Same as people who drink alcohol ..I don’t mind until it becomes a problem.

FutureMemory's avatar

The most successful/driven person I know smokes on a regular basis. I smoke at least 2–3x a week. I’m lazy, but I was lazy long before I started partaking.

AshLeigh's avatar

They smell bad.
That’s all I think of them.

Coloma's avatar

For me, for whatever reason it motivates me, helps me focus on certain tasks, maybe because I am slightly ADD. My own inside joke, never diagnosed

It gets me into things like cleaning my garage, haha.

And, as I already mentioned, the creative aspect.

Of course I sleep like a baby at the end of the day/night, but as far as being lazy, nope, not me. It must be some sort of brain interaction, because I just get super energetic and creative and time flies by while lost in whatever I am doing. :-D

Not to mention the awareness factor, I am a pretty aware person to begin with, but, it also is great for the nature appreciation scene too. I get really, really, into my property, noticing all the trees, the light. I have always liked the way it effects my already super charged brain.

And, this might sound arrogant, oh well, but really, if one is a pretty sharp knife to begin with, the effect is not going to really be noticible. It is the dull knives that grow even duller, and this is true for any alcohol or drug issue. I am in no way advocating any sort of abuse, but, IMO, it is true, the bright ones remain bright and the dull ones get duller. lol

redfeather's avatar

As long as they don’t bring any in my house or car I’m okay with it.

sarahtalkpretty's avatar

Yeah, to each his own, but I don’t agree that chronic pot smoking is harmless. I’ve see it harm family relationships and suck the motivation and sense of responsibility out people. The mantra is always “alcohol is more dangerous” and that may be true, but pot is not like vitamins. It’s not good for you. Yet that’s what some advocates seem to be saying.

Facade's avatar

I think more of a person if they smoke weed responsibly. People who are very adamant about marijuana being dangerous aren’t really my type.

DominicX's avatar

Not unless I see that it’s affecting their life negatively. In the vast majority of cases I’ve come across, that is not the case, but I have come across a few where it was.

Coloma's avatar

Moderation is the key to all things, a happy brownie weekend every month or so is not an issue, happy brownies for breakfast, lunch and dinner is.

Berserker's avatar

So many different kind of people smoke weed. Too much work for me to judge.

bea2345's avatar

I would think less of them because they are risking prosecution for a very momentary pleasure. Decriminalize; or better yet, legalize the damn thing.

Blueroses's avatar

It’s not my thing but I don’t have any problem with anyone who enjoys it. Stoned people are hilarious. :)

Berserker's avatar

@Blueroses Hell yeah.

Story! Friends and I were smoking weed. We were three. Friend A and I were in some deep convo, while Friend C was zoning out. Everytime we addressed him, he just went; yeah, yeah…We thought he was listening to us, until Friend A tried an experiment…she asks him, so, how does lightning work?

Yeah, yeah…

Fuck did we ever laugh.

Granted, he was like that even when his brain wasn’t altered by anything, which wasn’t very often…I miss my stoner days and friends. Ah well. Bottom’s up!

Coloma's avatar

Last fall some old friends from San Diego were up. We used to party it up way back when. The husband is a very successful engineer and they live a very affluent lifestyle. He is 54. Well…I had mentioned my ‘Happy’ brownies and Mark got all excited, he hadn’t done anything like that in years, and we were going to tour my zone for the day, hit the river, the restaurants the local wineries/micro-brewery. My good friend, his wife, brought her brother so he was the designated driver. He took his brownie home with him for later. :-D

Anyway, I gave Mark a giant brownie, it was enough for two people, and, they were quite potent to begin with. I told him to only eat half and save the rest for another time.

Well…he wolfed down the whole thing! Uh oh! lol

He’s a pretty big guy, 6“2 or so, around 220 in his middle age, I thought that maybe, given his body size he would be okay. Poor Mark, he was wasted after about an hour. Just sort of staring out the window and then, we all went for a river hike and he had to sit down and get a grip. haha

Later he told me I had enlightened him. lol

He told me a few days later that he messed up for 2 whole days.

When the oldsters go back and do the time warp, again! haha

Joker94's avatar

It doesn’t really bother me, occasional use is pretty harmless. I tend to disassociate myself with heavy users, though, they tend to be nothing but trouble. I have no issue with my friends getting blazed, but I’d be concerned if they fell into a state of heavy use. Take it in moderation.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@Coloma you can say all you wish that you dont have happy brownies now but the way you keep answering this question it leads me to believe your high as a kite :P

Coloma's avatar

@uberbatman
I wish, no brownie bliss in the frizzer for me. lol
When it’s not around I don’t think of it, but, I’ve been thinking of it today! haha

woodcutter's avatar

Depends on the person, if they are in control and don’t do stupid things then it’s fine.

Nullo's avatar

I do not approve of smoking pot, for its impact on health, its adverse effects on the brain, and for its use despite being illegal to use.

Bellatrix's avatar

As long as it isn’t impairing their ability to live a productive life or affecting me negatively, I don’t really care. Really, I don’t see much difference between smoking an occasional joint and drinking alcohol.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Bellatrix A joint? I’d judge them for partaking in such shit weed (unless they were at a concert or something, where you don’t want to share anything but crap with total strangers).

Bellatrix's avatar

I also don’t care how they partake, that’s their business not mine.

Jellie's avatar

I simply think: atleast we’ll have something to do together.

rOs's avatar

@Nullo, “adverse effects”? “Impact on health”? By that math, I’m assuming you don’t drink? I haven’t seen any conclusive studies that THC is bad, but I’m open to the possibility.

Also, don’t forgot the part about the vaporizer.

_zen_'s avatar

Less is more.

Nullo's avatar

@rOs Adverse effects like the temporary impairment of your brain, which might possibly lead to memory problems. THC may or may not be harmful, but smoke inhalation definitely is. And munchies can’t be any good, either.
Since you asked, my alcohol intake works out to about two drinks a month, typically over dinner. Wine and cider.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@Nullo again inhalation vaporizer….

might possibly lead to memory problems? You would think that since man has been smoking weed for literally thousands of years somethin such as this would be far more evident no? Ill give ya the temporary impairment thing but not long term.

Coloma's avatar

I have them memory of a herd if Elephants..sheesh, that’s why I LIKE the mini-vacation, it helps me forget! lol

bea2345's avatar

If I sound a bit humourless, sorry. It is not a subject I can be dispassionate about. I want them to decriminalize pot, ganja, weed, whatever you call it, because it is obvious that a great many people want it, and even the authorities themselves are ambivalent about it. This has helped to generate a contempt for the interdiction of all illegal drugs and even for all law. In fact, interdiction has not worked. With the harder drugs, efforts to stop use have destroyed whole communities. The campaign against tobacco has been brilliantly successful. And why? because the antis have done their homework, identified the dangers, and made them known. What should be done with illegal drugs? Same approach.
