I liked the What to Expect the First Year book. It has been a while since I had a newborn. 14 years to be exact. I am also a mother, but this book was really helpful with information about sickness, milestones, what they should be eating and doing, safe toys, etc.

I have two great books for you. They focus on the child and understanding what the child is going through—so you can use it as an adult parent regardless of sex. With a newborn, you have to expect to get little sleep while they are in their first few months. And much luck to you!

The Science of Parenting by Margot Sunderland
and
The Irreducible Needs of Children: What Every Child Must Have to Grow, Learn, and Flourish by T. Berry Brazelton and Stanley Greenspan.
