How to get rid of fluid from behind ear drums?

Asked by NostalgicChills (2787points) June 26th, 2011

I’m deaf and I wear hearing aids, and recently I have not been able to hear like ANYTHING. I went to the audiologist, and the hearing aids are not the problem, its my ears.
I have fluid behind my ear drums and the only ways to get it out is through surgery (which is dangerous and could make me go completely deaf) or just wait for it to dry. Meanwhile, I got a spray to help it, but it doesn’t seem to do much. Does anyone have some tips to speed up the recovery process? Because I need to work, and I need to recover pretty fast.

Listen to your audiologist. There are no shortcuts here.

This is not the forum for this question. You need to see a doctor and audiologist.

Try putting lavender oil in and around the ear(s) it will make the lymphatic system function to a greater degree. Not “pure ” lavender oil but a 10 -20 % solution , cut it with almond or some other neutral oil. Worked for me.

@throssog That’s horrible advice. Did you not read the OP? @NostalgicChills is deaf and should see an ENT specialist for this problem.

@NostalgicChills Do not put anything in your ears unless directed by your physician.

Seems to have been to an Audiologist and surgery? Hmmm. But then Doctors do love to cut , don’t they? The only advice that should be heeded as prescriptive would be that from i an ENT who is knowledgeable of the various ways of dealing with such problems.
Oh, by the way, as I said: worked for me. Which was my comment.

I asked my grandma, who is also deaf, and she said that taking Sudafed (sp?) every four hours would help and it did.
But thank you guys.

@NostalgicChills Thank you so much for the update. If that is all it took, you may want to read about ETD . I was diagnosed with it about 20 years ago. A decongestant almost always works for me.
