I want to play 80s video games through a projector. What's the cheapest system for doing this?

Asked by crisedwards (329points) June 29th, 2011

A friend is having an 80s party and wants to have an LCD projector showing people at the party playing 80s video games like Dig Dug, Galaga, Joust, Pac Man, etc. What is a good, affordable system to do this? The projector is not the problem. We have that. What game system should we use?

If you have an old X-box, you can hack it to play pretty much any 80’s game. My ex did it and now he can play pretty much any game he wants to, as long as it’s an old enough game. I’m not sure if the link is the method he used or not.

Emulator on your computer and hook it up to the projector.

hacked wiis work, as well as chip-modded psx systems (there’s a way to burn a nes emulator disk),
but the best way is an emulator on PC/mac/linux, plus a multi-controller USB adapter.
I use PS2 controllers, plugged into a USB dual controller adapter I bought on eBay for about $5 with free shipping.
