I have a pool in my backyard. When my son was living at home, he used it every day, but since he moved out, it hardly ever gets used.

I haven’t been forever. Last time, some school field trip or something. Like, grade seven. Other than that, I have been in a lake. (where I almost drowned lol)
First, I don’t know how to swim, second, I don’t enjoy showing so much skin in front of a buncha people, and third, the Sun frightens me. Swimming/pool/wtv, not for me.

I am way way underweight and I think because of that, water that is comfortable to others has always felt very cold to me. A pool has to be close to 90 degrees before it feels good to me, and obviously I don’t run across that too often.
I haven’t swum (is that a word??) since my surgery… people with ostomies CAN swim safely, but I’m not personally comfortable with it. My surgery to reverse my ostomy is scheduled for July, and in celebration I bought a bikini the other day. :D Can’t wait to try it out!

I went swimming in a pool at a Motel 6 in Slidell, LA about a year ago.

There is a public pool nearby but I haven’t been for about six months.

It’s quite embarressing that I work in a sports centre and have free access to a 50mtr swimming pool and yet I probably go no more than twice a year.

My in-laws have one of those above-ground pools you buy in a box at Wal-Mart. It’s actually perfect (but I wouldn’t want it in my yard). Cheap, has a filter, easy to maintain, and great for the kids. I think they got the biggest one, about 18 feet across and 4 feet deep. They live down the street from us, so I take the kids swimming a few times a week. They love it. I’ll go in the pool on really hot days, but mainly I sit in the shade with a book while they swim.

And, we live only a few minutes’ drive from the town beach. My kids will go in the water, but I don’t get much more than my feet wet. It’s Long Island Sound, and it is cold! Later in the summer it warms up a bit, but then the jellyfish arrive. I have to desire to know what it’s like to be stung, so I still stay out of the water.

When I was a kid, we lived a block away from the neighborhood pool and swam almost every day in the summer. Then we moved out to the country and had a big pond to swim in. On weekends in high school, I’d go with a friend of mine to her family’s lake cottage (this was in Indiana) and we’d swim there.

Rarely, there are no public pools near me. I wish here was so I could take my kids regularly.

Pre-divorce we had a pool and the kids loved it, especially on a day like today which will be nearing 100.

Do I look good in swimsuit? No, so I don’t go to pool anymore since long time ago.

At night, after work as often as I can during the hot weather. We’ve a pool in the backyard but don’t use it as often as we could since we’re often beat tired and lazy at the end of the day. The kids use it more when they come to visit, they’ll even use it during the cooler months if they can stand it. That’s what I like most because I remember being a kid and wanting a pool almost as bad as a pony so it’s fun to make that happen now.

No easy access to a pool nearby, so mostly when we’re traveling.
Last time in a hotel pool was in April in Newport, RI.

My friends regularly go, but I never have. I can’t swim.

This recent story of the dead woman in the pool for two days bears repeating. The water was so cloudy that no one realized that s/he was swimming with a corpse.

I go swimming pretty often in the summer and on vacations in the winter.

But @gailcalled‘s story makes me want to go a lot less!

InTheZone's avatar

I used to go more when I had a pool at my own home, but now I don’t enjoy swimming as much and don’t swim at all often, mostly because I think about all the things that might be in the water. see above When I do go I make sure to keep my head above water at all times, and shower and wash REALLY well when I get out. maybe even a few times in between : >

I find that the older I get, the more paranoid about things that might or might not be real risks. Wish I could just enjoy it, but hey…

@gailcalled Gross. I remember once when we had our pool covered for the winter, a neighbor knocked on our door and asked if we has seen her 5 year old. I ran out and pulled the cover off so fast, I nearly wrenched my back, but luckily the pool was clearly empty. I never did put the cover back on again, I was too scared. We have a double fence around our yard, with locks on the gates, but that is no guarantee.

We have our pool alarmed and surrounded by a child safety fence now, in addition to the above mentioned double fence.

My daughter and I have been living in our pool the past three days since we put it up. (we got a late start this season) We have the pool @MissAusten described. We’ve had very hot temps lately and no air conditioning in the house, so the pool has been a welcome relief from the hot house. We are getting ready for a little night time swimming as soon as I get off the computer. ;)

Swimming is my favorite pastime. I spent many summer days at the local public pool when I was growing up. I took swimming lessons there and I have taken our children to the local pool for swimming lessons.

We would probably spend more time at the local pool if we didn’t have our own pool. I just can’t imagine a summer without swimming.

I swim a lot. Maybe as often as 3 times a week. I love to do it! Most of the time I try to bring a friend with me.

I can’t remember when I last went swimming. As a kid I thought I loved swimming. Then, the older I got I realized I actually didn’t like to get wet. I found I waited before getting into a shower. When I told my mom this, she told me that, as a very little kid, I walked out into the ocean and was knocked down by a wave. I was terrified. I’m no longer terrified but still, there’s that little hesitation before stepping into the shower.

I had to swim for PE, but it’s been about a year since I swam for fun. Though, I do intend to start swimming because running hurts my knees and I’m horrifically out of shape..

I went swimming in a private pool a couple of 4th of Julys ago, but, I have a hot tub I keep full of icey cold water in the summer, like now. It is my mini-pool and is really nice on hot evenings. I also live near a beautiful snow fed river that is only about 8 minutes down the road from me. I take my inner tube and go floating on occasion. Plenty of cool water action over this way.

Coloma's avatar

Out here in the hills where I am the only accidental drownings in my hot tub are bugs and the occasional tree frog.
They like the warmth under the cover and occasionally, when I flip the top over they leap into the boiling cauldron.
Always a bummer…they hit the water, kick off a couple of strides, go limp, and start sinking. :-(
