My girlfriend has never seen an R rated movie - any recommendations?

Asked by rockfan (14627points) July 4th, 2011

My girlfriend has never seen an R rated movie. She’s pretty sensitive and she grew up in a strict family so I guess she’s never felt the need to watch an R rated movie. I just got Netflix and she wants to watch an R rated drama/thriller for the first time. Any suggestions on a good movie?

Sorority Sisters. Its pretty scary but not that much. Also put your hands around her and stuff like that so she won’t be too scared.

Has she had sex already? I only ask because if she is still a virgin it might affect what I recommend, some R movies might make her uncomfortable. How old is she?

Reservoir Dogs. Heavy language, and lots of blood, but no sex parts.

Pulp Fiction. For similar reasons as the above.

Die Hard 3 (action)
When Harry Met Sally (Comedy)

I can’t think of any thrillers off the top of my head, but I really liked these two movies. Shawshank Redemption is also excellent, it is a Drama.

Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz if she like comedy and understands British humor
Memento, Revolver, or The Machinist if she likes psychological thrillers
Boondock Saints for action thriller
Se7en (Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman) if she likes detective/serial killer films
Oldboy if she likes foreign action psychological thrillers
RocknRolla or Lucky Number Slevin if she likes action comedy and crime
Requiem for a Dream if she likes tragedy (okay so this one is unrated, sue me)
28 Days Later for horror
Sunshine if she likes Sci Fi and suspense

and my brain is pooped from trip to the beach.

Saw (I don’t think there’s any sex in it. Just a lot of blood)

Shutter Island (I think there’s a small amount of nudity not sure)
