Why do so many video hosting sites disappear?

At tv.blinkx.com there are always links to sites that host the episodes, then bam! one day that site is gone. I’ve actually seen a few from start to finish. Why do they just disappear all of a sudden?

Same reason so many 3 card monty games and guys on corners selling things that fell off the backs of trucks disappear so suddenly.

Because they’re illegal, and the copyright holders get law enforcement to bust them for their illegal activities.

You don’t even need to host material that infringes on a copyright; even posting a link to it will make you an accomplice and thus get the RIAA, MPAA, FBI, ATF, and every other memeber of the alphabet squad after you.
