What things did you like as a child you find are just plain awful when you try them now?

Asked by Imadethisupwithnoforethought (14682points) July 7th, 2011

I have been trying to show my kids some cartoons that I loved when I was a child.

They suck. Objectively. In point of fact.

Do you revisit things later in life and question your taste at that previous point?

I used to suck down pepto bismo as a kid because it was a pretty color and I actually liked the taste. They had to hide it from me. I can’t stand the taste now.

Sugary cereals.

I used to adore the Flintstones vitamin chewables, but now they just taste and feel like chalk.

As for cartoons, I used to love Sailor Moon, but now when I watch it online I realize how simple the show is.

I adored Pokemon cards and Tamagotchi’s too. If I’m being honest, I’m still heartbroken I can’t find my Pokemon card collection. I blame my parents.

I used to love eating chicken feet, now it’s like blech, those feet have been in shit, no way in hell that’s going in me.

Crusader Rabbit was a pretty lame cartoon, but I didn’t realize it until I was older.

Grape bubble gum balls are gross. I used to get 5 of them every Wednesday on the way to religious education.

When I was a kid, I would eat hot dog buns with ketchup and mayonnaise. I always ate the hot dog plain on the side so I could enjoy that ketchup and mayonnaise bun.

I also liked Pepto Bismo! I can’t figure it out but I do remember up until about 4 or 5 liking a little ketchup/catsup on my scrambled eggs. After 5 though, I thought ketchup/catsup repulsive on anything except the very tip of a french fry.

Oscar Meyer Bologna rolled up with mayo spread inside :P

Sugar butties (sandwiches to the uninitiated). I don’t know what was going on there. I apparently used to love them though.

@Bellatrix Ouch is right! And I am not ashamed to admit I still try!! XD

Hot dogs. They’re disgusting.

The ABC blocks aren’t very interesting any more. I had a great little tricycle that I loved to ride on the concrete sidewalk circling my grandma’s big house. My knees jamb under the handlebars now. No fun at all.

And yeah, @lucillelucillelucille I used to love the cotton candy at Ocean View Amusement Park (no long since demolished). But now it gets all stuck in my beard. :-)

chyna's avatar

@ETpro I think the trick to cotton candy is to pull small, bite sized chunks off with your fingers and eat it. Sticking the whole stick in your face guarantees you will get it in your beard and nose hair.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ETpro When I used to eat that I would have a cotton candy beard. XD

The movies “The Gods Must Be Crazy,” “Top Secret” and “Johnny Dangerously.” I watched them maybe 100 times each, loved them to death, thought they were ROTF-hysterical. I’d say to my friends- wait for it, wait for it, then fall over in laughter.
I decided to take a trip down memory lane recently and. 0-o.

Ketchup on Tuna Fish sandwiches. Gah…what was THAT all about. lol

Otherwise, no…still love horses, still love nature, still love animals just don’t want as many, I’m tired, haha
Still am silly and playful and trusting and bold and sincere.
I am VERY in touch with my inner child. She’s a fun little thing.

Infact, I have a 5×7 pic of my 3 year old self on my fridge. Looking all mischeivious inspite of my little pink dress and bouquet of Daisies.

Gawd…they always made me put on a dress and pose.

Campbell’s Cream of Tomato soup. Can’t stand it now.

chyna's avatar

@Sunny2 Aw, I drink that when I’m sick.

Sunny2's avatar

@chyna I didn’t say it wasn’t good for you; I said I didn’t like it. How come you don’t go with the usual chicken soup when you’re sick?

chyna's avatar

Something about tomato soup reminds me of my childhood and it makes me feel better to drink that instead of chicken soup. I’m sure chicken soup is better for what ails me though.

Sunny2's avatar

@chyna Tomatoes have vitamin C in them. That’s good for you, although cooking may destroy it. Have whatever makes you feel good. I’ll even pretend I like it if I’m served it.

In the sweet cake dept: Ding Dongs, Twinkies and Ho-Ho’s.

In the candy dept: Sugar Daddies, Tootsie Rolls, Jolly Ranchers, Now and Laters, Bottletops, Skittles, Hubba Bubba Gum and Juicy Fruit Gum.

In the cartoon dept: Woody Woodpecker, the late 60’s/early 70’s version of Popeye (with the Sea Hag and Brutus instead of Bluto) Scooby Doo and the 70’s version of Tom and Jerry.

In the fun dept: staying in the swimming pool for hours (instead of minutes like I do now) going down slides and going on spinning-style rides.

In the travel dept: riding on airplanes (I developed a bad phobia for flying at age 7).

In the TV dept: game shows, Sesame Street (which went down hill after Jim Henson died).

In the color of clothing dept: hot pink. Most of my clothes were in the hot pink to magenta range when I was in elementary school. My mother was kind enough to let me outgrow that phase. : )

I’m not fascinated by my toes and fingers anymore. : )

bobbinhood's avatar

When I was little, I regularly bit my toenails. I certainly am no longer that flexible, but even if I were, I would pass on that one.

Plucky's avatar

@Dutchess_III I am! Well, my fingers and toes any ways ((wiggle)).
