Can you suggest any good, fairly nonviolent multiplayer games for ps3?

Asked by jellyfish3232 (1852points) July 9th, 2011

So I’m planning on buying a PS3, and I’m a fairly hardcore gamer. I love playing the multiplayer mode in Modern Warfare 2 at my friend’s house, but my parents forbid me from buying it. They don’t mind me playing it, but they think that it’s too violent for my 9-year-old brother to watch. I’m planning on getting LittleBigPlanet 2, but can you suggest any multiplayer versus types of games that aren’t too violent? Oh, and I don’t like sports games.
Halo would be perfect, but I’m not getting an Xbox.

Any reason you’re not getting an Xbox? I personally own both and prefer the Xbox. OT: Warhawk is a great online game that’s not too violent. You can buy it both on disc and on the PSN store.

@Paul
My friend has a Ps3, and I’d like to game with him over PSN. I also don’t want to pay for Xbox live, I consider that an inexcusable waste of my money. I mean, do you know how many lawns I need to mow for that?

I suppose, any-who you Warhawk should be acceptable to play around your brother.
Add me on PSN when you get one if you want too. My PSN ID is ChaosController.

@Paul
If I get a PS3. My parents hate these things.

Infamous 2 is fairly nonviolent, or at least has a tasteful way of going about its violence. It is only singleplayer, though. I’m only really mentioning it because it’s good.

Portal 2, though is definitely the way to go, though. It’s just 2 person multiplayer (co-op) it’s funny, amazing, and has crossplatform coop with PC from PS3. Only problem is that there’s not a lot of replayability after you beat the story. It is a great game, though.

As mentioned, Warhawk and Portal 2 are good.

Others:

Fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Street Fighter IV, Blazblue: Continuum Shift, Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter 5, or Soul Calibur IV. Some of those may exceed your mother’s violence threshold,
check them out individually.

Racing games such as Dirt (1, 2, or 3), Gran Turismo 5, Need For Speed: Shift, Burnout: Paradise, Blur, Split/Second, ModNation Racers, Motorstorm, etc.

To be honest, the PS3 is more of a single-player console. I highly recommend not limiting yourself to multiplayer games. You’ll miss most of what makes the PS3 great.

Portal, I forgot! That one was certainly on my list. Thanks.
@Ivan
That’s an extensive list. I’ll check them out, thank you.

@dverhey
Oh, and do you support resetting the minecraft server when the adventure update comes along<question mark>

@jellyfish3232 Yeah, Wes contacted me about that. Honestly, doesn’t really matter to me. I’ve built a lot of stuff, but it sounds like 1.8 will completely change the game, so it could be good to have a new world that takes advantage of those new updates.
