Are there any memory "hacks" I can use to stimulate my brain?

Asked by NOWserenity (43points) July 9th, 2011

I guess I’m looking for tests/games that, at the very least, stimulate my memory, and ideally make my mind more “receptive” to new ideas/concepts. I’m trying to jolt my brain into (getting in the habit of) remembering things, so maybe some of you students out there have some ideas? I’‘m open to any and all suggestions. I’ve seen brain-trainer books floating around; do those help?

Welcome to Fluther!
Memorize poetry you like, or quotations you want to remember. Keep your mind active at learning something new. Don’t use patterns you’ve always used, find something new for your brain to get around. Learn a new language. For games look for memory games on your computer. Make sure they promote the use of your memory. I think what works is a personal choice. Good luck.

Here is a good site for that.

Consider researching on how the sense of smell can act as a catalyst for memory and associations. It’s very powerful, and often overlooked.

This article talks about a guy with average memory who set the U.S. record for memorizing a pack of cards. I think he wrote a book about it, but here’s the article -

We can implant many hacks into your cortex, enhancing its higher functions. We are the Borg.
