Which revolution (s) are you most familiar/knowledgeable about?

Asked by Simone_De_Beauvoir (39052points) July 11th, 2011

I’ve been reading a lot about revolutionary fervor and spirit lately, different books + articles and thinking about living through some revolutions and looking back on others that came prior to my existence. I realized that I grew up (as a Communist child) believing the Bolshevik revolution was the end all and be all and, obviously, as I grew up in different countries and realized things aren’t always peachy keen on the other side of the revolution, I became more knowledgeable about what actually happened. As I got into philosophy in college and became especially taken with the Hegelian Dialectic, I began to learn all I could about the events leading up to and from the French Revolution – these days I’m looking at the events of those days through a literary perspective of de Balzac which shines a new light. There are many other revolutions I’ve been very interested in especially the Iranian Revolution as well as the Burmese Revolution but I wouldn’t say I am as knowledgeable about those particular ones as I am about the first two I mention.

So, I ask you, which revolutions can you discuss well and contribute to a conversation about with others?

American Revolution, but I’m fairly knowledgeable when it comes to the French Revolution. I know a bit about the Communist Revolution as well.

The American, the Bolshevik, and the Ethiopian Civil War.

I’ve been reading up on the Belgian Revolution at the moment, too.

Don’t really care so much about revolutions. WWII, however, is my area of expertise.

Filipino during the Spanish American War, Spanish Civil War, Bourgainville, American Revolution, MEND, IRA, AIM takeover of Wounded Knee in ‘73, and the current “Maoist” struggle in India, not to mention numerous revolutionary groups who didn’t quite have wide-scale revolutions. I know I forgot some.
