How can having two girlfriends at once go wrong, if they both know each other and know about each other and everything is in the open?

Asked by poisonedantidote (21675points) July 11th, 2011

Will there be jealousy after time? Are there any statistics on how this kind of thing works in most cases, I’m guessing it can’t end well really.

They have both known each other since school and are almost 30 now, and they are still good friends after all that time.

What can I expect if I keep seeing them both at the same time, tonight seemed to go ok, but can it really last?

Wow, you really got back in the saddle quick.
If it can go wrong, it will.

Well, the chances of it working are lower than most relationships, but that doesn’t mean it can’t work at all. Just enjoy it while it’s hot lol.

@Blackberry Btw… not that this has anything to do with anything. but one of them is black and my small shitty town is very racist. How much will other peoples shitty comments affect this?

no, it’s not ask a black guy day, just, on here you are the only one i know, i have never had to deal with racism before, just xenophobia.

How can it go wrong? The shorter list is “how can it not go wrong”. What’s fine when you just kinda like this guy you’re fucking is often not even a little bit ok when you’re in love with him and wanting the relationship to become more serious. Plus, people lie about how ok they are with certain things, this being a popular lie.

@Aethelflaed I’m not sure this is what I want either really. I thought I was past doing things like this, but it was very fun.

I am very drunk at the moment, and now it’s all hilarious, but I don’t know if I will be doing the facepalm tomorrow or not. At the moment, I have found a loong black hair, a short blonde one, and I cant stop laughing to my self, but everything is moving funny, and its making me feel hot and silly.

Having two girlfriends is not a problem.

Having two crazy girlfriends is.

I think everyone on fluther knows which situation you’re in.

You have explained that you are seeing more than one person, and I respect you for being upfront with them about your dating status.

When I was young, I dated a guy who was seeing several women, some who I knew. He was open about it. It helped keep my emotions in check.

@Pied_Pfeffer I mean together… instead of one guy one woman, one guy two women. All 3 out together doing things together as a trio.

@poisonedantidote It depends on how well you guys can handle the comments while staying on the high road. Some people can’t handle it and let it strain the relationship.

You say they each know about each other. I assume they don’t know “blow by blow” details if you’ll pardon the pun. If they one day start comparing notes, he said this to me, he did that to me, you will be in trouble. If you treat one better than the other, and they start comparing “he took me here, he bought me this” you’ll be in trouble. If something goes wrong with one of them and she wants to get you, she may start dishing the dirt to the other one, and you’ll be in trouble.

So I’ve given you three solid examples of how you can be in trouble very quickly.

@jca As I begin to sober up some, you answer has a fairly chilling realistic touch to it.

However, so far, and by so far I mean once, we were all together at the same time, so we all did the same thing. (for now…)

@jca “blow by blow” – I LOLed. Yup, that’s normally when things go south – when you figure out you aren’t the favorite (even if you are, but not in the way you like).

Like the old saying goes…..“two is company and three is a crowd”.

Wonder what this means?

When one gets more time with you.
When you smile differently at one of them.
When you get them different presents.
When it takes you longer to text one back.
When you answer a text from one in front of the other.
Shall I continue?

Imagine how you would feel if you were one of 2 boyfriends.

Can it work? Sure. Will it likely work? No.

IMO you need to get a grip on your life…you are letting a boss shove 12 yr old whiskey down your throat and now you say you have 2 girlfriends and a threat of racism to boot!??? Someone I see likes a bit of drama in their lives….

Remember that paycheck you used to have? Gone? Do the math. How long can you survive at that rate?

downtide's avatar

There can still be jealousy related to the amount of time you spend with one girlfriend vs the other one. Unless the three of you live together then sooner or later they’re both going to start demanding more time of you than you have to spare.
