When you first attended a sports class what was the first thing you learned ?

Asked by Hibernate (9091points) July 15th, 2011

Maybe you can remember what it was.
Some say it’s the way how to fall correctly.
Others remember that any sport is supposed to be about enjoying it and not about winning all the time.

What about you? What do you remember?

Yep. How to fall so you don’t break a bone. (Skiing)

The only sports class that I have ever attended was kayaking class. The first thing they taught us was how to escape when, not if, if capsized. I almost flunked that one, I forgot to release the apron before I swam out and broke the foot support in the kayak but I now know how to escape a capsized one and even how to right it while I’m still inside!

Golf lessons about age 8. I learned that it can be hard to learn how to play a sport right-handed when you’re left-handed!

I remember begging to try out for softball in the 7th grade but my dad said I was so small I would get clobbered. It was for 7th – 9th graders. So, I learned to play piano, sax, dance, and twirl a baton (even fire!) ... not necessarily all at one time. I learned I didn’t like to sweat much later on (unless I’m dancing) so I guess sports weren’t really for me anyway.

I learned to stand in shadowy places, or at least, places of the gym where there isn’t too much attention given to, and then hope I wouldn’t be hit right in the boobs by a big fucking red ball.
In early highschool, we played baseball. As soon as I was in the field, I subtly made my way as far away as I could towards some tall grasses, and laid down there and waited for everything to be over. Almost fell asleep a couple of times, too.

I’m not into sports at all, or any kinda physical activity that isn’t walking or sex haha.

Baseball practice. How to hammer a ball that wasn’t moving and sitting beautifully on a tee! Those were the days. lol

The only “sport class” that I have ever attended was swimming lessons. I started at about 6, mostly because my Dad was afraid of drowing and wanted his kids drown-proof. Since we have all lived to a good middle age his orders were effective. I never could, however, get him to go to the beach or pool. It was kind of “do as I say, not as I do”.
