Is there one single recorded album, in which most of it's songs were hits?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) July 16th, 2011

Have you ever purchased an album, in which most of the songs, contained in that album, became hits for the artist? I can only think of one that may have come close and that was the “Thriller” album by Michael Jackson There may be others out there. Question: do you know of one recorded single album, in which most of the songs, on that album, became or were hits?

The ones that I thought of were not all hits, but all the cuts are familiar:

The Beatles Abbey Road

Crosby Stills and Nash (had two Top 40 hits but several more songs are well-known)

and I owned a British release EP from the Beatles called Fun, Fun, Fun, which had that song, In My Room, Little Deuce Coupe and Why Do Fools Fall in Love on it.

The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour was amazing. Many hits, and many familiar tunes.
1. “Magical Mystery Tour”
2. “The Fool on the Hill”
3. “Flying”
4. “Blue Jay Way”
5. “Your Mother Should Know”
6. “I Am the Walrus”
Side two
1. “Hello, Goodbye”
2. “Strawberry Fields Forever”
3. “Penny Lane”
4. “Baby, You’re a Rich Man”
5. “All You Need Is Love”

Same with Dire Straits Love Over Gold. Only a couple songs I didn’t know.
1.“Tunnel of Love” (Mark Knopfler, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II) – 8:11
2.“Romeo and Juliet” – 6:00
3.“Skateaway” – 6:40
4.“Expresso Love” – 5:12
5.“Hand in Hand” – 4:48
6.“Solid Rock” – 3:19
7.“Les Boys”

@marinelife Did you mean the Beach Boys?
I am not familiar with the Beatles covering any of those songs.

@crisw Good choice! My favorite Fleetwood Mac song, Silver Spring, was not on the original album, but was a B side for one of the songs from this album. They did put it on the reissue, though.

3. “Never Going Back Again”
4. “Don’t Stop”
5. “Go Your Own Way”

@blueiznh Correct. I meant to change that, but got sidetracked. Thanks for pointing that out.
Sometimes I am a bit of a ditz.
I was familiar with all but 2 of those songs when I bought the album.

Michael Jackson’s Bad had nine number one singles.
