What do you think this sentence means in this context?

Asked by ilovechoc (142points) July 20th, 2011

Hi,

I am actually trying to apply for a job and I’m trying to address the recruiter properly in my cover letter. I was about to write “Dear Hiring Executive, ” but this following sentence in the job description confuses me:

“Position Reports to the Director of Engineering”

Does it mean that I had to direct my cover letter to the “Director of Engineering” or does it just means that the job that I’m trying to apply has to report to the director of engineering for example to submit stuff, proposal, etc.

Please help me out with it, because I really don’t want to loose that first impression of the hiring manager or whoever that reads my cover letter. For more information on the content/context of how the sentence was written in, I copy-pasted the job link below:

Thank you very much for all of your help. It will mean a lot to me. Thank you.

It means “has to report to the director of engineering for example to submit stuff, proposal, etc.”

The Director of Engineering would be your supervisor.

Direct your cover letter to the HR dept. head. That just means that when you get hired, the Director of Engineering will be your supervisor.
