What is the typographic right way to write the ellipsis in the Sigur Rós album; "Takk…"?

Asked by wilhel1812 (2877points) July 21st, 2011

I’m a perfectionist. I’m adding this Sigur Rósós album Takk… to iTunes and I can’t decide wether to use the U+2026 Horizontal Ellipsis or to use three periods. I’ve noticed that Wikipedia, last.fm and Sigur Rós themselves uses three periods. Still I can’t help but think that this is just a typographic error and that the right spelling is Takk… How would you write it?

FYI, fluther automatically converts three periods to an ellipsis. Just so that doesn’t become a confusing element in discussing this :)

I’d write it the way the band does.

The three periods is perfectly acceptable. There isn’t a difference between the three periods and the unicode ellipses for it.

The only thing I would be concerned with is compatibility with other media players and how they read ID3 tags. Three periods would be more compatible, while there is a small chance that U+2026 will result in a mess of garbled characters. (like ’) when switching media players, uploading to an online music cloud, sharing with friends, or uploading to MP3 players.
